The conference room had that quiet, understated luxury that spoke for itself. David stood out in his perfectly tailored black suit, every inch the handsome, untouchable CEO. He led the Harmon Corporation team as they welcomed Mark, the CEO of the French powerhouse LVMA.
“Mr. Harmon’s French is amazing. He actually speaks more than twenty languages. He’s never needed a translator,” the receptionist said, handing Ella a cup of coffee.
Ella smiled, her thanks soft and genuine.
“You’re welcome, ma’am. I’ll get back to work now.”
“Alright.”
Once the receptionist left, Ella’s bright eyes wandered back to the floor-to-ceiling windows, settling on David inside the meeting room.
David and Mark stood side by side, deep in conversation. David’s French was flawless. This was the world of high-stakes business, where power and ambition filled the air. Even through the glass, Ella could feel that almost dizzying sense of privilege that clung to David. He was magnetic, impossible to ignore.
No wonder girls couldn’t stay away. Jessa had barely left, and now Monica was circling.
When David was in work mode, he was all cool detachment and self-control. He looked like he belonged on a magazine cover, the picture of discipline. But Ella knew better. She remembered the way he’d tried to control her, how he could be both perfectly proper and wildly intense—like two different people in one body.
The thought made her lips curl into a sly smile. Maybe it was a little wicked, but she couldn’t resist. She pulled out her phone, found Hubby in her contacts, and sent him a message.
A soft chime echoed in the meeting room.
David was in the middle of speaking to Mark. He paused, apologizing quietly, then reached into his pocket for his phone.
There it was—Ella’s message.
[Mr. Harmon, I’m here to beg you.]
