Ella looked away, shaking her head. “I’m okay, Lilly. Really.”
She pulled out her phone and called the Harmon family estate.
Grandma Chelsea answered right away, her voice bubbling with excitement. “Ella, you finally remembered your old grandma! I’ve missed you so much.”
Ella glanced again at the shadow of the luxury car disappearing down the street. “Grandma, I don’t have class tonight. I’ll come by and have dinner with you.”
“That’s wonderful news. David will be home tonight too. I can’t wait to see you both.”
“Alright, I’ll see you soon.”
After hanging up, Ella turned to Lilly. “I have to go back to the estate.”
Lilly nodded. “Go ahead, have a nice dinner with Grandma Chelsea.”
But Ella shook her head, her voice low and determined. “That’s not why I’m going. I want to find out who Monica’s sugar daddy really is.”
Lilly stared at her, completely thrown off. “Wait, what?”
…
The extra-long Rolls-Royce glided down the city streets. Aiden drove up front while Monica sat in the back, eyes glued to the man beside her.
David wore a sharp, custom black suit, a crisp pocket square tucked into his jacket. He’d just come from a board meeting, the cool energy of a top executive still radiating off him. The city lights flickered through the windows, catching on the hard lines of his face. He was just as striking as the first time she saw him.
He barely seemed to notice her, eyes fixed on the file in his hands.
Monica watched him, her gaze full of open longing. “Mr. Harmon, I took a fall from the harness today, but it wasn’t a big deal. You really didn’t have to come see me.”
David didn’t glance up. His tone was cool and distant. “Did Ella come to the hospital to see you?”
