Lilly nodded with a grin. “Yep, that’s right. Ella is Mrs. Harmon.”

Monica could hardly believe it. She squeezed Ella’s hand, her eyes full of envy. “Ella, you’re so lucky.”

Ella just gave a small, complicated smile. Lucky wasn’t exactly how she’d describe herself.

Later that night, Ella lay in bed, scrolling through her phone. She hesitated for a second, then opened her chat with the contact saved as “Hubby.” After a moment, she sent him a simple message.

A reply popped up almost right away.

Ella’s fingers paused over the keyboard. She didn’t answer. Instead, she tucked her phone under her pillow and closed her eyes.

She walked up to the front desk. “Hi, I’d like to see Mr. Harmon.”

The receptionist smiled politely. “Do you have an appointment?”

Monica’s face fell. She turned to leave, disappointed, but just then a group of people came striding across the lobby. David was at the center, tall and focused, discussing something with his executives.

Monica’s whole face lit up. She hurried over. “Mr. Harmon, hello.”
