All five tests were finished.
David grabbed the papers and flipped through them. Each answer was perfect, written in her neat, delicate handwriting.
Seriously? He couldn’t believe it. Five tests, all done in an hour, and every single one was a perfect score.
How did she pull that off?
David glanced at Ella, still fast asleep, suspicion clouding his face. He called out, “Aiden.”
The office door swung open. Aiden stepped in. “Yes, sir? What do you need?”
David’s tone was sharp. “Aiden, I can’t believe you’d pull something like this right under my nose.”
Aiden blinked, confused. “Sir, what did I do?”
David dropped the tests onto the desk. “You helped Ella copy the answers.”
Aiden stared, stunned. He wanted to protest, but the words stuck in his throat. This wasn’t fair at all.
David didn’t want to hear excuses. In his mind, any explanation was just a cover-up. There was no way Ella could finish five perfect tests in one hour unless Aiden had given her the answers.
“One month’s pay docked. Don’t let this happen again. Get out.”
Aiden left with his head down, still completely lost and feeling confused. Why was he the one taking the fall?
David originally planned to wake Ella up and give her a stern lecture, but when he saw her sleeping so soundly, he hesitated. It was already late. With a quiet sigh, he gently lifted her in his arms and carried her to his private lounge.
He’d been sleeping in there for the past few days. Carefully, he laid Ella on his bed.
He turned to leave, but suddenly Ella’s arms slipped around his neck. With a surprising strength, she pulled him down onto the bed beside her.
After a few days apart, they ended up sleeping together again.
Ella’s soft, warm body curled up against him. Her small hands hugged his neck as she found a comfortable spot in his arms, drifting right back to sleep.
David froze, his body tense. Even after days apart, she was just as clingy as ever.
