The Immortal looked around nervously at the ancient castle in front of him. Something was vaguely off about this place, but there was so much magic in the walls that it was impossible to tell what exactly it was.
The stone itself was ancient, imbued with a magic far beyond his own level, but there were other enchantments here, weaker ones.
What he couldn’t tell was if they were intended to be a non-lethal method of capture, an afterthought, or if the spells had started to fade with age, and simply couldn’t maintain their integrity anymore.
If that was the case, he had come just in time.
The Professors had informed him that this backwater mortal world held a Legendary treasure, a gift left behind by an ancient being before it ascended to minor divinity.
They didn’t know what it was, but the Professors had never steered him wrong before, and the magic of this place certainly did feel like it could have been done by a Legend.
Slowly, he turned in a circle. He had been here before, he was absolutely certain of it.
Dammit, he had walked into an Illusionary Domain the moment that he entered the building, and he had just been walking in circles in the first room.
[Detection] showed him the way out, and far above him, Karl sighed.
"He’s definitely a researcher. He’s got a spell to just lead him out of the illusion without breaking it. I was sure that we were going to get some entertainment as he rummaged through the illusion for the key."
Misty smiled down at the scene, replayed in a bowl of still water. "I like that you left an actual key, so he could treat it like a puzzle and work his way out without using brute force.
Very classy. Totally in theme with the event."
Karl chuckled. The next part was not a nonviolent answer.
He had placed a pair of Epic Golems in the hallway, Earth Elementals at the Mythic Rank, who would activate with proximity, and slow the man’s approach, while keeping him interested in the right route.
"How long do you think that we can divert him for without making it too obvious that we’re keeping him out of most of the building?" Karl asked.
"Probably not more than half an hour, But don’t worry, I will kick him out after he’s done. I’m not letting some random loot my house like it’s an ancient relic."
The mere thought was offensive, and she had even removed all the valuable decorations from the path that led to the puzzle.
Fortunately, the student was quick to catch on, and when he saw the second Earth Elemental, he cast an upgraded cloaking spell on himself, allowing him to sneak past it instead of fighting it.
He was actively trying not to smash everything that he came across, a proper history student, and not just a treasure hunter.
