Capital Metropolitan, Security Bureau Headquarters.
Samuel Chalmers sat at his desk, a thick bill from the Spiritual Affairs Department from two months ago laid out before him.
This was the bill for the special spiritual network Samuel Chalmers had requested Ivan to activate when the Sea City incident occurred.
The events in Sea City were key to the Vein Soul’s return; Samuel didn’t need to deliberately recall to search this part of memory, ignoring the extra figure next to the memory, he merely shifted his gaze from the bill to another report.
This report was from the Mystic Regulation Office, about the formal establishment of a collaborative channel between the Mystic Regulation Office and Spiritual Affairs two months ago.
"The Demon Clan previously resisted cooperation with the Spiritual Affairs, what’s the reason behind their change of mind now?"
Samuel Chalmers directed this question to Aaron Hearne sitting on the sofa opposite him.
The awakening of the Dragon Vein and the return of Samuel Chalmers as a figure of significance were major events for both the Security Bureau and the Mystic Regulation Office.
When he was away, Aaron Hearne could afford to disregard the Mystic Regulation Office as a subordinate unit to the Security Bureau, even openly opposing Simon.
But now that Samuel Chalmers had returned and showed intention to reclaim control of the Mystical Demon world, Aaron naturally had to appropriately adjust his stance.
Upon hearing this, Aaron Hearne only shifted his gaze slightly, replying,
"The previous non-participation was due to the complex situation of the Demon Clan’s Demon Records, but in recent years the operations of Spiritual Affairs have matured, and appropriate cooperation doesn’t harm the Demon Clan’s development.
In the future, it will ultimately be the world of the Imps to dominate the Demon Clan, and if they want to embrace some new things, naturally, they should be allowed to."
He paused here, then casually added,
"The main reason for this collaboration was due to a newly found half-demon fox among the Fox Tribe — Scarlett Jennings. You met her a couple of days ago."
Upon hearing this name, Samuel Chalmers’ expression didn’t change in the slightest, he only continued in the same tone, "I know her."
Nothing more, not another word was mentioned.
Simon at the other end of the sofa glanced at Aaron Hearne, showing no reaction to his deliberate mention of Scarlett Jennings before Samuel.
After looking at some documents for a while, Samuel Chalmers had Aaron Hearne and Simon temporarily leave.
Once they had left, he, as if struck by a notion, walked to the window and opened it.
The next second, a little paperman radiating golden light swiftly darted in from outside the window — it was Araminta Gold.
Samuel Chalmers recalled that when he woke from his slumber, this little thing had been by his side all along.
He could feel his own power in it, as well as... another pure source of spiritual power that didn’t belong to him.
So it was that when he had just woken, he readily accepted the little paperman’s companionship.
But as soon as he stepped into the Capital Metropolitan area, it disappeared.
When he saw it again, it was together with Scarlett Jennings.
He remembered how she coldly refused to return it to him, and yet now, it had come back on its own.
"Did she send you back to find me?"
Samuel Chalmers asked Araminta Gold.
The latter tilted its head, looking up at him, then gently floated up in the air, habitually landing on his shoulder, grasping his collar as it nodded.
Scarlett, its master, said that it was now her spy.
After all, she couldn’t really strike him with thunder, so she had to proceed gradually.
Thus, she decided to first send Araminta Gold back.
To also plant one of her "own people" by his side.
Araminta Gold was standing on Samuel Chalmers’ shoulder, patting its chest, showing a confident gesture.
