Chapter 40 -40: Anyone Who Likes Scarlett Jennings Is Up To No Good

Emma White and Timothy Garrison rushed to the hospital after receiving the call, just as Isolde Garrison and Lydia Patterson were wheeled out of the operating room.

Isolde had suffered fractures in both legs and a mild concussion.

Lydia was in better condition, having only broken one arm, the same arm Isolde had clung to earlier.

What was incredible was that the drivers, who should have borne the brunt of the head-on collision, only sustained minor injuries, merely requiring some medication and bandages with no need for hospitalization.

Emma, however, couldn’t spare a thought for the driver. Seeing Isolde lying pale on the hospital bed, her heart ached, and tears welled up in her eyes. Her already weakened body swayed suddenly, but fortunately, a nurse nearby supported her promptly.

“Isolde, my poor Isolde, why did you have to go out when you were perfectly fine at home? If something happened to you, how could your mother live on…”

Emma sobbed, while Timothy, already having a headache, pressed his head and scolded lowly, “Enough, isn’t she alright?!”

Emma wasn’t having it and retorted sharply, “How can you call it alright with her legs broken?! The Patterson driver, whether intentional or not, why did Isolde suffer the most while three people were in the car?!”

“Shut your mouth! You’re giving me a headache!”

Timothy sat on a nearby sofa and couldn’t help but bellow at Emma.

Since that night’s outburst, Timothy seemed to have flipped a switch, no longer treating Emma with the past kindness and gentleness.

Emma felt aggrieved, so she could only sit beside him with her mouth shut.

After a while, she couldn’t help but say,

“Honey, I really think there’s something wrong with our family. First, the two of us got sick, then Josiah’s car accident, and now even Isolde is in trouble. How can all these things happen coincidentally?” freewёbnoνel.com

Seeing Timothy’s sullen face not responding but clearly listening, Emma continued, with an air of deliberate explanation,

“Especially that night, it really felt like I was possessed. Those words just came out uncontrollably. It wasn’t my intention at all, like someone was controlling me to say those things.”

Timothy laughed coldly, not believing Emma’s words.

If she hadn’t thought about those things before, how could she have said them?

But after cooling down for two days, he wasn’t as angry at her anymore and had noticed something odd.

He was always a restrained man, and even when Emma did those stupid things, he never lost his mind and acted so irrationally.

He had never laid a hand on Emma, not because he so deeply loved her.

But because he thought that only useless men would vent their anger on their wives.

In a proper and respectable family like his, no matter how infuriating, one must maintain composure and propriety on the surface.

So, indeed, he was a bit off that night.

“Honey, do you think these things could be related to that little slut Scarlett Jennings?”

Emma suggested Scarlett had used some means against the Garrison Family, while Timothy suddenly recalled what Scarlett had told them before.

[“The magic you used to swap Fate Charts didn’t work.”]

[“Isolde’s previous calamity will soon find her again. If you want to save her, have Isolde personally bring me her grandmother’s bracelet.”]

Timothy squinted slightly, his face turning dark and serious once more.

“Maybe it really is related to her.”

Hearing Timothy say this, Emma was delighted and was about to agree when Isolde suddenly moaned and woke up on the bed.

Emma and Timothy immediately forgot everything else and hurried to the bedside.

Seeing them, Isolde was initially startled. After a while, seemingly realizing she wasn’t dreaming, she looked at them and began to sob,

“Dad, Mom, Patterson wants to break up with me, boohoo.”

The bracelet was too old-fashioned. Initially, only to irritate Scarlett, did she wear it on her arm; later, she just threw it in the jewelry box.

Timothy, recalling Scarlett’s words, shared his suspicions with his wife and daughter.

Hearing that Scarlett might be able to save Isolde’s life, but only if she brought the bracelet to her, Isolde’s face momentarily twisted with rage but quickly concealed it, looking pitifully at Emma.

Emma indeed did not disappoint her, immediately screaming,

“Have my Isolde personally go with the bracelet to beg that little slut?! Impossible! Honey! How could you think that? Isn’t that just sending my Isolde to get humiliated by that little slut?! No way! I absolutely will not agree!”

Timothy expected this reaction and coldly looked at Emma,

“If Isolde doesn’t go to find her, do you have any other solutions? If Isolde’s destined calamity still presides, today’s car accident will not be the end.”

But a beginning.

Upon hearing this, Isolde’s face turned pale as a sheet, making her look weak and helpless.

Emma’s heart ached, and she cradled Isolde’s head, only saying,

“There are plenty of capable people in this world, not just that slut’s way. Besides, what does she know? If she were really that capable, she wouldn’t have been blocking calamities for Isolde in our family for eighteen years. I think she’s just talking nonsense on purpose, to humiliate Isolde and to trick the bracelet from our grandmother!”

Timothy frowned at Emma but didn’t immediately refute her, clearly sharing similar concerns.

At that moment, the door to the ward was pushed open from outside.

It was Josiah Garrison, who had rushed over after hearing the news.

He had heard everything from outside.

“If she wants the grandmother’s bracelet, give it to her. Nothing is more important than Isolde. As for the bracelet, I will personally deliver it for Isolde.”

Josiah spoke with a steady and confident tone, taking the matter lightly.

He had, after all, been Scarlett’s brother for eighteen years, and he believed that as long as he asked, Scarlett would never refuse him.
