Five minutes later, in the Jennings home.
Lucas Jennings stared at Dashiell in front of him, looking constipated.
Wasn’t this his sister’s cheap brother from the internet, whom he had taught to play games before?
How did he get here?
Before Lucas could speak, Dashiell looked quite relaxed, lazily putting his hands in his pockets,
"Where’s the ghost that needs to be dealt with?"
Lucas stared at the boy in disbelief, "You can catch ghosts?"
He looked about his age! freeωebnovēl.c૦m
Dashiell didn’t recognize Lucas; to be fair, Lucas never showed his face when he taught him before and just glanced at him,
"If I couldn’t, why did you guys call me over? To bask in the moonlight?"
His tone was a bit provoking, but Donovan Jennings was used to it.
After all, Lucas often spoke provocatively too.
"Scarlett said we could call you for help, please check upstairs."
Though Dashiell looked like just a teenager, Scarlett Jennings had subtly hinted at his identity, so Donovan spoke to him differently.
Besides, an ordinary teenager couldn’t possibly be allowed by the Great Demon King, Samuel Chalmers, to stay at the Chalmers Family home.
Dashiell had been instructed from the start to look after the Jennings Family while staying here; otherwise, Donovan wouldn’t have just called him over.
Hearing this, Dashiell followed them upstairs.
The three of them had just reached the staircase when they saw Little Pretty suddenly run down from above. Upon seeing Dashiell, its fur bristled, though it didn’t take on the aggressive stance it did during the day.
Dashiell seemed intrigued by Little Pretty. He grinned suddenly as it stared at him.
Little Pretty’s fur bristled even more, turning into almost a ball.
Seeing this, Dashiell burst into laughter and beckoned, "Come here."
Little Pretty turned tail and ran!
Dashiell: ...
He always said he hated foxes the most!
Lucas saw him bullying his pet as soon as he came in, thinking this kid seemed even more unreliable.
Donovan... Donovan also thought this boy was somewhat unreliable.
Dashiell followed Lucas to his room, swaggering around before concluding,
"No ghosts, no demon energy, nothing at all."
Lucas gaped, "How is that possible!?"
His Protective Jade Token already had cracks!
Dashiell looked around once more, then suddenly strolled to a display stand, staring at a doll inside a glass box.
He stared for half a minute, making Lucas rather nervous,
"That’s the boy doll Azura Loomis gave me before... could it be a problem?!"
Donovan’s eyes darkened slightly upon hearing this, his suspicions from the doll room coming to mind.
But Dashiell simply looked at the doll and then at Lucas, "Hmm... no problem."
It’s just that the doll was steeped in his aura.
But when someone owns something for a long enough time, it naturally absorbs their aura, which is not unusual.
She said this while stepping forward, opening the door for them.
Regarding the injury on Azura’s forehead, later she explained that she was cut by scissors when she fell, though the scissors were found in a corner afterward.
However, Donovan had his doubts and didn’t entirely believe Azura’s words.
Azura led them into the room and casually flipped the switch on the wall.
Instantly, the room lit up, revealing rows of glass cases filled with various dolls.
Dashiell, seeing such dolls for the first time, looked curious, almost justifying Lucas’s claim of him being curious.
Dashiell wandered around the doll room, while Donovan vaguely felt there seemed to be fewer dolls than before, though, with so many, he couldn’t recall if he was mistaken.
Then, he saw Dashiell suddenly stop in front of a doll.
Azura glanced at the doll he fixated on, her eyes subtly trembling, but her face remained calm. She suddenly opened a glass cabinet and took out a palm-sized big-headed boy doll.
"You’re Lucas’s classmate, and since it’s your first time here, I wasn’t prepared. Consider this doll a greeting gift."
Dashiell looked at the doll similar to the one in Lucas’s room but with a different design, taking it without ceremony, muttering,
"Dolls folks play with these days are far more intricate than before."
Just as Azura was about to speak, Dashiell pointed at the ancient black-haired doll he was staring at earlier and said,
"This doll’s hair is even made from human hair."
His words made Donovan and Lucas suddenly tense, their gaze immediately fixed on the doll Dashiell pointed to.
Azura’s eyes flickered, but she quickly smiled softly.
"This doll was custom-made; such dolls usually use human hair, which is quite normal."
"Oh?" Dashiell raised an eyebrow, sniffing,
"Normal to use a dead person’s hair?"
