Donovan Jennings hesitated for a moment but eventually walked towards Azura Loomis’s room.
Meanwhile, Adam Jennings and Lucas Jennings also heard the commotion and rushed over from their rooms, all arriving almost simultaneously at the door to Azura Loomis’s room.
Donovan raised his hand to knock on the door, but before he could touch the door panel, a white blur swiftly flashed before his eyes, pouncing directly at Donovan’s outstretched arm.
By reflex, Donovan pulled his hand back, taking a step backward.
Upon realizing it was the little pet Scarlett Jennings had left at home that had bumped into him, Donovan’s almond-shaped eyes showed a hint of surprise.
The little pet had never pounced on anyone since it moved into the house.
Lucas was equally incredulous, "What are you doing, little one? Are you hungry?"
However, what answered him was a low growl from the little pet’s throat.
The little pet, after missing with its jump, quickly turned around. Its pure white fur stood on end, and the usually cute and obedient creature bared its teeth fiercely in the direction of the group.
At the same time, it lowered its upper body, with its whole small body assuming an offensive posture, letting out a series of menacing growls.
This was the sound an animal would make to intimidate opponents when facing a threat.
Lucas was startled. Just as he was about to say that the little fox had suddenly been spooked, he realized the creature’s menacing target was not them.
To be precise, it was the direction of the door in front of them.
Donovan obviously noticed this as well, his almond-shaped eyes narrowing slightly as he coldly instructed,
"Lucas, Adam, step back."
Upon hearing this, Lucas stepped back quickly from the door without hesitation.
He saw Adam still standing by the door, looking like he wanted to go in, and hurriedly reached out to pull him back towards him. "Didn’t you hear what Brother Donovan said?"
Adam, though concerned for Azura Loomis, recognized the uneasiness from the fox’s demeanor and let Lucas pull him away, albeit hesitantly.
But his gaze shifted towards the door, and he shouted loudly inside, "Azura! Are you in there? What’s going on?!"
There was no response from inside.
Worry visibly tightened Adam’s face, "Brother Donovan, Azura might be in trouble; we need to go in and take a look!"
Donovan glanced at him, saying nothing, and turned his gaze once more at the still-intimidating little fox. After a moment, he called out,
"Come here, little one."
The little one heard his voice, hesitated for a moment, but still ran to his side, standing in front of him, its fluffy tail facing the door again.
That already fluffy tail now puffed up like a ball.
Even a fool could tell that there was something wrong with the room.
Though Donovan hadn’t paid much attention to Azura Loomis, since she was staying with the Jennings Family, any mishap would be difficult to explain, so he instructed the two younger ones to step aside while he moved forward and decisively opened the door.
With a click, the door swung open decisively.
First just a crack, then it was fully opened with a swish.
Before they could clearly see what was inside, the little one had already darted inside like a flash of lightning.
Seeing this, Donovan followed closely, and the next second, a scream from Azura Loomis echoed inside.
"Ah!"
Hearing this, Lucas and Adam hurried inside, only to see Azura Loomis being knocked to the floor by the little pet.
"Azura!"
Seeing this, Adam wanted to go forward and swipe the bothering fox off her, but as soon as he raised his hand, he remembered it was Scarlett’s fox. His hand froze, unable to move, so he carefully picked the little creature up from behind.
"Brother Donovan, I know it’s Scarlett’s fox, I’m not blaming it..."
Adam’s heart ached seeing her like this,
"Azura! Don’t be afraid; the family will certainly give you an explanation for this! You..."
Before he could finish, he was suddenly kicked in the backside.
Adam stumbled a bit, then turned to see Donovan calmly retracting his leg, giving him a look as if he were an idiot,
"Open your eyes and see clearly, is there any blood on the claws?"
As he spoke, still holding the little fox with one hand, he grabbed its two paws.
The paws were clean, with no trace of blood. Even a closer look revealed neatly trimmed nails, with not a single fleck of skin or blood.
Adam was suddenly at a loss for words.
Seeing this, Lucas hurried to get a closer look, "The little one’s paws are very clean; it wasn’t the one who scratched her!"
He pointed at the wound on Azura Loomis’s head, "Besides, how could a fox scratch just one line on someone?!"
That should have at least three!
Upon hearing Lucas’s words, Adam finally caught on, looking sheepish as he glanced back at the little one in Donovan’s arms.
The little one just turned its head away, whipping its sizable tail as if it didn’t want to deal with anyone.
Donovan threw a similar casual cold glance at Adam,
His eyes seemed to say,
See, a fourteen-year-old kid is smarter than you.
Adam: ...
