Adam Jennings thought he’d rip off her disguise right away, and she’d at least show some guilt or panic.
But Scarlett Jennings didn’t.
Not only did she not, she even slightly raised her eyebrows and then absentmindedly praised him,
"Really smart, I thought it would take you another two years to figure out who Grant is. As expected of you, quick reaction."
Adam listened to her praise and didn’t feel happy; instead, he felt a kind of shame and anger from being mocked.
Don’t think he didn’t hear that she was actually mocking him!
"If it weren’t for you deliberately misleading me, how could I not have recognized Grant as your disguise! You even deliberately ignored my request before!"
Scarlett looked at him, but her face showed little expression,
"First, I never misled you. Second, I didn’t ignore you, because as Grant, I didn’t accept your custom request, and refusal is reasonable."
"Why wouldn’t you take my custom job!" Adam instinctively questioned.
Scarlett also instinctively retorted, "Why should I accept your custom job? What misunderstanding do you have about your status with me?"
Just because of his several attempts to speak to her with a strange tone and attitude, even answering his video call was already giving him face.
Adam was so unceremoniously rebuffed, feeling aggravated, instinctively wanting to lose his temper, but remembering his purpose for calling her, he suppressed his anger.
He then put on a stern face,
"Let’s not argue about this first, I just want to ask if you’ve seen the blueprint I gave you."
Scarlett:...
To be honest, she had already forgotten he had handed her such a thing.
Seeing her expressionless and not answering, Adam’s face turned a bit sullen, "You haven’t opened it yet, have you?!"
"Uh-huh." Scarlett answered without a hint of guilt.
Adam nearly had a heart attack hearing her reply, instinctively clutching his chest, but forcibly holding back his temper, trying to soften his tone,
"Scarlett, I’m not joking with you, open the blueprint I gave you, it’s really important to me."
Facing his forced calm tone, Scarlett remained unmoved, as cold as a robot devoid of emotion,
"Important to you, but not to me."
Adam’s facial muscles twitched slightly, but he still restrained himself, gritting his teeth as he asked her,
"What will it take for you to talk to me properly? Isn’t it enough that I acknowledge you as my sister?"
It would have been better if Adam hadn’t said that; as soon as he did, Scarlett instantly ended the call again without mercy.
Why do these people keep disgusting her in the same way?
First Isolde Garrison pretending to call her sister, now Adam acknowledging her as his sister.
Although living under the same roof, she never regarded them as cousins.
Just like how they never regarded her as a cousin back then.
Now, even less reason to pull that relationship card.
Annoying.
Adam stared in disbelief at the disconnected call again, a mix of shame and anger on his face, stifling his frustration before redialing.
Scarlett originally didn’t want to continue dealing with him, but Adam’s inexplicable persistence sparked her curiosity, so she casually reached into her backpack and pulled out the blueprint he had shoved at her.
Adam’s assertion was so certain, Scarlett couldn’t help but counter him,
"How do you know that the image you have is the correct one? Maybe it’s just one of your fantasies too."
However, Adam didn’t get offended this time; instead, he stared at her seriously and said,
"I know you think I have delusions, but I don’t."
He said, "Because when I was sixteen, I had a test by a leading psychiatrist."
Scarlett:...
Such a move was too extreme, she found herself without a comeback.
Seeing her in silence, Adam just chuckled,
"When I dream of something this strange, my first reaction is of course scientific.
But since science can’t explain all this, I hope to find some unscientific methods. This is the first time in all these years that I’ve seen an image in reality that matches the Benedict Beast in my fantasies!"
That’s why he had to contact her.
Even if she didn’t want to customize the jade piece for him, at least she could help him investigate the history behind the Benedict Stone Body at her college.
He had an instinct that this stone body might answer the questions he had for years.
"I haven’t told anyone about this, Scarlett, you’re the first person to hear about this dream in its entirety!"
Scarlett listened to his serious tone, but unemotionally glanced at him sideways.
So what?
Was she supposed to feel incredibly honored?
