Scarlett Jennings saw the related news reports online. Although she didn’t know what method Old Sir Jiang used to make Timothy and Isolde Garrison confess in such a short time,
the moment she saw the situation was resolved, even though she had unilaterally decided back then to sever all karmic ties with the Garrison Family, *she still felt an overwhelming sense of relief.*
It was as if the mountain that had bound her for eighteen years was finally moved completely away at that moment.
Immaterially, it also seemed like something quietly dissipated from her heart.
Scarlett Jennings didn’t pay any further attention to what became of Isolde and Josiah Garrison.
Even if Isolde Garrison’s actions wouldn’t be punished by the law, regarding the swap of the Fate Chart, she, as the beneficiary, enjoyed eighteen good years. Naturally, the karmic backlash that followed was her due retribution.
Scarlett could merely watch.
Putting the phone aside, Scarlett Jennings checked the time and prepared to take the baby ginseng doll out to feed on Shadow Energy again.
She had just descended the stairs when she saw Adam Jennings come out of the living room. When he saw her, he frowned,
"Are you going out again? What does it look like for a girl to be out every night? Can’t you be more like Azura?"
Scarlett felt a headache as soon as he spoke, regretting once more that the bet she proposed back then only silenced him for a week, not a month.
But she was in a good mood tonight, so she didn’t mind responding with a sentence,
"I can’t."
Adam Jennings instantly seemed to be at a loss for words.
Scarlett thought the conversation could end there for the night. However, as she was about to leave, Adam followed her, his tone slightly softened from before,
"I heard you like to do jade carving. Besides the Jade Tokens you gave the family, do you have any other works?"
Adam Jennings spoke as if trying to cover something up and explained further,
"A friend of mine recently opened a Jade Playhouse in partnership with others. I see you’re rather short on money. If you’re interested, I can talk to him about letting you consign your pieces there."
His tone, at the end, unconsciously carried a hint of condescending generosity.
Scarlett Jennings rejected Adam’s proposal immediately, "I’m not interested,"
not caring at all about his intentions.
The patience Adam Jennings had painstakingly mustered dissipated the instant he heard Scarlett’s unequivocal refusal. His entire face turned stern, and his tone reverted to its usual sharpness,
"Scarlett Jennings, what kind of attitude is this? I offered you guidance out of goodwill, but not only do you not appreciate it, you treat me with this kind of attitude? Do you really think I owe you something?"
Adam’s expression wasn’t friendly, and his tone was charged.
Scarlett paused her steps and finally turned to meet his gaze directly,
"What about me? Am I supposed to owe you something?"
Adam was taken aback, "What?"
"I owe you nothing. Since I returned to the Jennings Family, I haven’t owed anyone anything. Yet, you all keep picking on me as if I took great advantage of you. But in fact, you’re just another family freeloader, so why are you feeling so self-important?"
Adam never expected her to retaliate suddenly. His expression was utterly incredulous, but what followed was overwhelming shame and anger,
"What did you say?!"
"You heard what I said. If you want others to treat you with courtesy, first you must learn to be courteous to others."
Adam, filled with wrath, couldn’t listen to her anymore. He raised his voice again with a gloomy expression,
"Scarlett Jennings, you are simply—"
This time, however, Scarlett didn’t wait for him to finish. She suddenly raised her hand and cast a Prohibition Talisman on his mouth.
So he spoke up,
"Grandpa! Uncle! Scarlett Jennings is outrageous! She just used a spell on me to seal my mouth! I can’t speak now!"
As soon as Adam finished, the two people in the study fell silent, their gazes on him filled with complex emotions.
Lucas Jennings’ room happened to be on the second floor. Hearing the commotion earlier, he had opened the door and overheard Adam’s words.
He was briefly stunned, then couldn’t help but ask,
"You say you can’t speak...so how did you just say all that?"
Adam opened his mouth again but suddenly realized something and immediately covered his mouth.
He was so angry, so fixated on demanding their uncle teach Scarlett a lesson, that he hadn’t noticed he could speak again!
Seeing his grandfather and uncle still watching him from the study, Adam’s face turned bright red, but he maintained his defiance,
"She did cast a spell on me with a talisman, just now! I mean it!"
Before Luca and Old Sir Jiang could speak, Lucas came over with a tone of dissatisfaction,
"Brother Adam, at least lodge a credible complaint! Yes, my sister knows some Mystical Sect spells, but those are for dealing with evil spirits. You’re slandering her to smear her professional integrity!"
"Shut up! She did curse me, just moments ago!"
Lucas remained unfazed, retorting back with his neck held high,
"Aren’t you perfectly fine now?! Saying my sister cast a spell, where’s the proof?!
Or are you saying she cast it just a moment ago and then lifted it right away?
Do you think my sister has nothing better to do? Do you know how much each one of her talismans costs to be used just for fun?!"
