Mikhail’s POV
Cassian makes a sharp grab for the loungewear, his pride clearly stung. I deftly tuck the bundle behind me on the couch, out of his reach. A smirk tugs at my lips. “I’m handsome. I look good in anything. I wouldn’t mind your clothes.”
Ha! Let him chew on that.
He’s exasperated, like a storm cloud about to burst, but with Gemma right here, he can’t unleash the full thunderstorm. He just sinks heavily onto the opposite couch, radiating suppressed
annoyance.
Now, let’s see how long he keeps up the act.
I turn my attention to Gemma, who’s watching this petty skirmish with a mix of weariness and amusement. “Gemma, your earrings are pretty nice!” I comment, nodding at the delicate blue stones in her ears.
“I bought them casually after dinner the other day,” she says, her finger brushing one absently. “From a random handmade
store.”

I wave a dismissive hand. “Just say you didn’t find me. Say it looks like I’ve gone back to the country. Make up any lie you want.” I give her a conspiratorial grin. “Aren’t you the best at lying?” The thought is clear: She can even lie about the baby being mine. How could she not know how to make something up
now?
I see the flicker in her eyes–she really wants to hit me. Instead, she answers, her voice shifting into a perfect mask of concerned frustration. “Hello? No, I didn’t find him. I have no idea where he went. He probably went back home. Why don’t you go
check?”
She’s barely hung up when Linda’s call comes in. Without missing a beat, Gemma repeats the performance, the same words, the same tone of helpless bewilderment. Flawless.
When she finally ends the call, I give her an enthusiastic thumbs–up. “I knew you could. No one can lie better than you!”
She glares at me, the picture of murderous tolerance. “I thank you so much,” she grits out, each word sharp enough to draw blood, I can practically see her imagining ways to eat me alive. It’s the most entertainment I’ve had in days.

sharp with accusation. “Gemma, what father have you ever seen who would beat his own son for an outsider? He’s just plain nuts!”
Peter’s face darkens with immediate offense. He opens his mouth, a retort ready, but his eyes dart around the hospital corridor. He swallows it back, the public setting staying his hand.
The Russian woman–the ‘outsider‘–just stands there trembling, staring at Zina with wide, frightened eyes, saying nothing.
Zina’s furious gaze swings to her. “What are you looking at?” she snaps, the protective ferocity in her tone terrifying. “If anything happens to Jeremy, I won’t spare you!”
