Celine countered coldly, "You're lying! Carly, we all heard it just now. You knew all along it was Anne who used the venom on Ms. Jakeman—your own mother—yet you still sided with the woman who tried to kill her!"
"That's right, Carly. We heard every single word clearly. Stop trying to deny it!" Hailey added angrily.
Nigel, Fiona, Adam, Celine, and Hailey were all staring at her with icy gaze, leaving Carly with no room to escape. She felt her heart sink to rock bottom.
Nigel turned to Anne. "Anne, don't you think you owe me an explanation?"
Anne knew the game was up. There was no point in denying it anymore. She met his gaze and asked, "Nigel, what is is exactly that you want me to explain?"
Her calmness only added fuel to the fire in Nigel's heart. He stepped forward and grabbed her by the throat.
"I trusted you! Why would you do this? Fiona is my wife—legally married to me! Why would you go after her, causing her to nearly die giving birth? To think that all these years I've protected you, thinking you were kind and innocent!"
Anne choked under the pressure of his grip. As his furious face loomed in her vision, she sneered, "That innocent Anne Warwick died a long time ago."
Nigel's eyes reddened, and the chill around him turned glacial. His violent aura made him look terrifying.
"What is that supposed to mean? I know your father died because of the Hampton family, but we took you in and treated you as one of our own, like my own sister. Wasn't that enough?"
"Of course not! You gave me houses, money, everything—but none of that was what I really wanted. What I wanted was you!"
Nigel froze.
"Nigel, we grew up together. We're no different from childhood sweethearts. If Fiona hadn't existed, I would've married you. I should've been your wife!
