Grace sputtered, "Adam, you—!"
Carly had already expected this response from Adam, so she came prepared. "Adam, the Hampton family was also invited to the Apex Gala this time. My father won't be attending, so I'll be representing our family. Can I ride in your car?"
Adam's response was cold. "No."
She stiffened up at that.
Then, he turned and walked away without hesitation.
Carly was frustrated after being shut down so bluntly, but she quickly adjusted her emotions. "Mrs. Alvarez, since Adam won't take me, I'll have my driver take me instead."
Grace nodded. "Alright, Carly. You'll still be able to see Adam at the Apex Gala. Go and have fun."
"Okay."
Half an hour later, Carly arrived at the Apex Gala, with Melody tagging along.
Melody also moved to the Capitol three years ago. She had since broken up with Ewan, who had given her an astronomical sum for the breakup, and was now single again.
Melody was here with Carly to take advantage of the Apex Gala. With all the powerful figures in attendance, she figured she could easily find a wealthy man to latch onto
Melody clung to Carly's arm. "Carly, this Apex Gala is so grand!"
Carly smiled. "Yes, today I'll take you inside to see for yourself."
Just then, a Rolls-Royce business sedan sped into view. Adam stepped out of the car with Leo.
Carly beamed and said, "Adam, you're here."
Adam glanced at her. This woman was truly persistent. No matter where he went, she always seemed to show up.
Ignoring her completely, he strode toward the entrance.
At that moment, another business sedan pulled up. The rear door opened, and a stunningly elegant figure stepped out.
Celine had arrived.
Adam, as if he had sensed something, turned his head and saw her.
Without another word, he took off running.
"Hey, Adam!" Carly stomped her foot angrily.
Adam chased after Celine, but when he reached the spot where she had been, the area was empty. Celine's delicate and enchanting figure had already disappeared into the vast crowd.
Adam looked around frantically. "Celine? Celine!"
On the second floor, Celine had stopped in her tracks. She had heard Adam's voice.
While standing by the ornate railing, she looked down and saw him searching for her with urgency in his eyes.
Her long, delicate eyelashes trembled slightly.
Three years had passed.
"Adam, it's been a long time," she murmured.
