The Day I Walked Away My Empire Began novel Chapter 93

She leaned in for a closer look. Yep, it was definitely his handwriting.

“Take your time,” Steven said. “If you don’t have anything to add, just sign it. Once you do, the lawyers will handle the rest.”

Lucie felt her heart finally unclench. She stared at him in disbelief. He’d been so stubborn in court, flat-out refusing to divorce her. And now he was the one handing her divorce papers. She never saw it coming.

Elio’s eyes practically sparkled, and he looked like he was itching to grab the papers and read them himself.

Lucie took a deep breath, forcing herself to stay calm. “Steven, are you really sure about this?”

Steven’s face was all seriousness. “I’ve already signed my name. Would I lie to you? Once you sign it, it’s official. The only thing—I can’t give you custody of Cody. But if you want to see him, you’re welcome anytime.”

She scanned the agreement line by line. It was fair—no tricks, no hidden catches. The only thing he insisted on was keeping custody of Cody.

Once she was sure there were no problems, she pulled a pen from her bag and signed both copies without hesitation. She handed one back to Steven.

“Custody of Cody goes to you. I’m not going to fight about it.”

Steven nodded. “Alright.”

Elio couldn’t hide his grin. “Lucie, congratulations on getting your freedom back. Once the divorce is final, can I have a shot at winning you over?”

Lucie shot him a glare. “You’re nuts.”

Steven’s eyes narrowed, dark and sharp as he shot Elio a look that could kill. Then he turned to Lucie, his expression unreadable.

“Lucie, let’s head back to New Amberton. It’s still early. We can get the lawyer to handle everything tonight.”

Lucie hesitated for a moment. “Tomorrow’s fine too.”
