The Day I Walked Away My Empire Began novel Chapter 82

So she was just working. He could finally relax. He knew how much she loved her job, and honestly, he was all for it. He really believed what she did mattered.

“Yes, Mr. Heath. Should we keep looking into it?”

“…No, that’s not necessary. Let her focus on her work. Don’t bother her for now.”

“Got it.”

Steven let out a long sigh and waved his team out of the office. Well, a little break would probably do everyone some good. He figured once she was done with this exhibition, he’d go see her and try to make things right.

“We’re heading out now!” The assistant and the hacker practically tripped over each other getting out. Working for Mr. Heath was always intense, like walking a tightrope.

Once everyone left, Steven lit a cigarette and checked the time. It was already the end of August. The weird thing was Shannon had been really quiet lately—no texts, no calls, nothing. Usually she was always reaching out. Still, he’d made up his mind: the sooner she went abroad, the better.

He called Shannon to ask if she’d packed or made any plans yet.

The phone rang and rang, but she didn’t pick up.

That’s odd. Why isn’t she answering?

He quickly sent her a message: Shannon, where are you? Let’s have dinner tonight.

Normally, if he called, she’d answer right away. She’d even text him all day long. But now, it had been days with no word from her.

Half an hour passed. Still nothing.

Steven frowned, his worry growing. What’s going on?

He tried calling again. Still no answer.

Did something happen to her?
