The Day I Walked Away My Empire Began novel Chapter 104

Could Steven have actually told the doctors to inject her with some slow-acting poison?

But she didn't have time to think. Everything went dark.

Splash.

“Lucie! Lucie…”

When she finally came to, a burning pain shot through her chest. Someone was desperately doing CPR, pressing on her chest and giving her frantic breaths.

She coughed hard, water spilling from her lips.

“She’s awake! Mrs. Heath is awake!”

“Thank God, she’s finally come back!”

“Hurry, get the car!”

The sound of the staff’s panicked voices blurred around her.

She felt weightless as someone scooped her up and ran outside. Her head lolled back, and she tried to focus, but she couldn’t make out who was carrying her. It felt like Steven.

But why would it be him?

If she had died like this, wouldn’t he be relieved? Shouldn’t he be happy to see her gone?

So why was he trying to save her?

Twenty minutes later, Lucie was rushed to New Amberton Hospital.

The doctors were already waiting. They quickly lifted her onto a gurney, and a nurse strapped an oxygen mask over her face.

Steven looked frantic, his jaw tight as he grabbed the lead doctor. “I don’t care what it takes. Save my wife. Nothing else is acceptable. Do you understand?”
