No wonder Raines had come back so suddenly. It turned out he'd gotten hitched.
Jessica lit up her face with a contented smile. "Settling down is good. All four of you brothers married off, your dad would rest easy in heaven."
Aurelia sighed inwardly, considering Raines to be the most unfortunate character in the Stirling family.
Fredric's mom, a free-spirited and savvy woman, had remarried abroad after giving birth, leaving the Stirling family no choice but to bring Fredric back to Elysium to raise. Jessica, kind and compassionate, treated him as her flesh and blood, showering him with love and care.
Although Arnold lost his mother at a young age, Chad had favored him the most, sparing him from any hardships.
Raines had lived abroad with his biological mother, who struggled with depression, causing him to suffer a head injury that left lasting effects. Living with a mentally ill mother for years, he must have endured much suffering. No wonder he was so thin and seemed unwell.
This was Chad's sin. He was likely not ascending to heaven but instead repenting in purgatory.
Sheryl chimed in, "Looks like we need to throw a wedding, don't we? Leopold and Aurelia never had their ceremony. Maybe the brothers could celebrate together."
Leopold wanted to give Aurelia a wedding to remember, something he owed her. He hoped she would be the sole bride on that day.
"Let's do them separately. Raines and Lisbeth can go first, and Aurelia and I will wait until after the Christmas."
Sheryl smiled. "Fine by me. You're the head of the household, you call the shots."
Aurelia cast a casual glance at Lisbeth, who was tall with an ordinary appearance. For Raines, having a wise and virtuous wife was probably more important than beauty.
"Lisbeth, don't just stand there, come sit down. Now that you're married to Raines, you're family."
Lisbeth hesitated before slowly taking a seat next to Raines.
Raines wrapped an arm around her shoulder, saying, "You'll need to get to know my sisters-in-law and the rest of the family better now."
"Sure," Lisbeth nodded lightly.
Aurelia smiled warmly. "Lisbeth, are you from Goldendell by any chance?"
"Nope," Skyler shook his head.
"So why did you say he reminded you of someone you know?" Aurelia inquired casually.
Skyler scratched his head and chuckled. "Angel, you heard me? I thought no one paid any mind to that."
Aurelia smiled. "Of course, I heard. And I think it's quite important. Who does Raines remind you of?"
Skyler pressed his lips together, lowering his voice. "I don't know why, but he makes me think of Geoffrey.
Geoffrey was just like that too, really skinny, always bundled up to his neck. He wore a long-sleeved coat even in the heat of summer, as if he was always cold."
Aurelia felt a tremor in her heart. "Isn't Geoffrey the one who looks exactly like you?"
Skyler pursed his lips. "Actually, I've never really seen Geoffrey. He always wore a mask. He's the one who told me we looked identical."
