"She's the only woman I want." Leopold declared, his voice firm and full of resolve. With that, he strode away, leaving no room for doubt.
In the Design Department of Astral Enterprises, Aurelia had just finished the first draft of a new design.
Just then, a mysterious email landed in her inbox, attached a picture.
The moment she opened it, her eyes widened in shock.
In the picture, Megan was hugging Leopold from behind, their closeness speaking volumes.
A wave of anger surged within her. At the party a few days ago, Leopold had assured her that he only considered Megan as a friend. And yet he was rekindling old flames behind her back?
Men's words were indeed a deceitful trap. How could she have believed him? She must be the biggest fool of all.
Her heart twisted in pain, and her mouth felt like it was filled with something sour, like biting into a sour apple.
Just then, Cindy approached her, "Director Aurelia, it's my birthday today. I was hoping you and the team leads could join me for dinner. Would you be available?"
"Sure," Aurelia managed a smile, "Happy birthday."
After work, she joined her colleagues for dinner at a restaurant across their office building.
Cindy had booked a private dining room in advance.
The first dish served was an American classic, clam chowder.
A masked waiter brought the soup in, ladling it out at a nearby service table.
Everyone was chatting and laughing, unaware of the waiter discreetly pulling out a syringe and injecting a clear liquid into one of the bowls.
Aurelia’s mood was off, the image from the picture consuming her thoughts. Even the soup tasted sour to her as if it had a squeeze of lemon.
Cindy raised her glass, "Let's toast to Director Aurelia. It's great to have her back. This time, we'll definitely beat Zina."
Everyone stood up, clinking their glasses together.
"Are you tired?" Leopold stroked her hair, his eyes filled with affection, but Aurelia didn't see it, just hummed a reply and turned her face towards the window.
Just thinking about him meeting Megan, their sweet whispers and intimate gestures, felt like a punch to the gut.
Back home, she went straight to the bathroom for a shower. Leopold tried to follow her, but she shut the door on him and locked it.
Leopold, sensing something was off, had no choice but to use another bathroom.
When she came out, he wrapped his arm around her slender waist, "What's wrong? Didn't you enjoy dinner?"
"No," she disentangled herself from him and lay on the bed, eyes closed. She didn't want to talk to him, her heart aching.
Leopold lifted her eyelid, gently blowing on her eye, "Honey, didn't we agree to be honest with each other? No sulking allowed."
Aurelia sat up. Since he wanted honesty, she’d give it to him.
She picked up her phone and showed him the picture, "Are you planning to rekindle old flames, Mr. Leopold?"
