Leopold's domineering nature was as unchanging, even the occasional spark of tenderness was fleeting.
"Leo," she exhaled in despair.
Leopold's thin lips curved into a wicked smile, "You know, calling me honey would be better."
Aurelia shot him a pretend annoyed side-glance, "We're still on a break, remember?"
And she had every intention to remain in this state until the cooling-off period was over.
In the living room, Jelena craned her neck to get a better look at the pair, chuckling, "Love is a marathon, not a sprint. The real winner is the one who can last the longest."
Jelena had initially rooted for Arnold, her cousin's first sweetheart, never expecting him to drop out midway. Avery heaved a sigh. Poor Arno must be heartbroken, hoping Aurelia would wait for him to be single again. But destiny waited for no one and once missed, it'd gone forever.
Jolin had dinner ready.
As the family was eating, guests arrived.
It was Belinda, accompanied by Rahul and Perla.
Zack put down his utensils and stood up, "Mom, you're in Elysium?"
Tears welled up in Belinda's eyes, "It's been three years, Zack. I don't know how many more years I've left, and how many times I can see you."
Zack forced a bitter smile, "Out of your three children, wasn't I the one you least wanted to see?"
Belinda had no idea of replying to his words.
Quick to defuse the situation, Rahul changed the subject, "Aurelia is back home, and her husband too. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I always knew our Aurelia was a lucky child."
Perla stretched her lips into an exaggerated, fake smile, "Indeed, she bore a son in her first pregnancy. Unlike Emma, who only gives birth to two girls, which threatens to wipe out our lineage."
Aurelia smirked. She knew Ritchie was all bark and no bite outside his territory.
"Why would the rich kids bully him?"
"It's all because of an internet celebrity. That bitch was two-timing Ritchie and one of the rich kids. They bumped into each other at the bar and a fight broke out," Perla added.
Aurelia fell silent, "He's married, has a wife and children, and still messes around with an internet celebrity?"
Perla was nonchalant, "Emma can't bear children anymore. Can't Ritchie find another woman to bear his child? Do you want our lineage to end?"
Aurelia felt like she could not persuade Perla about her wrong view.
"Does Emma know about this?"
Perla sneered, "What if she knows? If she can't stand it, let her divorce. I'd rather have her leave, so Ritchie can get a new wife."
