The Billionaire's True Heiress From Fake Jewel to Real Crown novel Chapter 584

“There’s nothing wrong with looking out for his own sister,” Claire replied, keeping it simple.

The group kept moving.

With Lance sent packing, nobody was left to kill the vibe, but Claire didn’t get to stay in Montara much longer either. They had maybe five days there before they hopped in the car and drove to a small border town to check out its legendary gem market. None of them had ever tried their luck with gemstones before, but they were young, curious, and just a tiny bit reckless, so of course they jumped right in.

Still, they didn’t go flashing cash around. They knew this wasn’t exactly the safest part of the world, and nobody wanted any trouble. Claire ended up picking a decent chunk of raw stone. It wasn’t the priciest thing out there, just 2500 dollars.

Each person in their group had the same limit, and they made it interesting by taking a bet—whoever found the best gem inside their stone would be the winner. The other three would then split the bill for the whole trip.

It wasn’t a crazy wager to someone like Claire, just a couple hundred at most, and sharing the cost barely made a dent in anyone’s wallet. When the time came, the other three cracked open their stones, but none showed even a hint of green.

Claire’s rock was the only one left, the one she’d bought on a whim. She figured she’d just open it up with everyone watching—except something unexpected happened before she got the chance.

A small crowd suddenly blocked Claire and her friends. One of the men looked over his shoulder, asking, “Danny, is this the girl?” They all froze for a second, and Claire realized an older man in glasses had his eyes glued to her stone.

“I bought this,” Claire announced, holding it a little tighter.

The old man nodded and said, almost too casually, “Yeah, you paid two thousand for it, right?” His eyes sparkled as though he was already counting his profits.

Claire couldn’t help but laugh to herself. So, she’d just accidentally scored something good. The truth was, she’d only bought the stone to help a kid running a little market stall—he couldn’t have been more than fifteen and was trying to get treatment for his sick mom. He hadn’t even tried to negotiate, just named a number, and Claire paid it on the spot. She would’ve bought it no matter what was inside. Two thousand was pocket money to her.
