Thalassa remained silent, slumped against the car seat. Her body felt weak and her heart felt like it was submerged in salty water, aching and stifling.
Upon receiving no response from Thalassa, Hertha didn't press further. She took out a tissue, wiping away the tears from the corner of her eyes before resuming her driving.
Midway through their journey, Thalassa suddenly felt sick. She turned a sickly pale and managed to utter, "Pull over..."
Hertha quickly parked the car at the roadside.
Thalassa unbuckled her seat belt in haste, got out of the car, and began throwing up into the nearby bushes until there was nothing left but bile.
Hertha rushed to her side, supporting her and gently patting her back.
Once Thalassa had finished, Hertha handed her a tissue.
Thalassa wiped her mouth and was about to step back when she swayed, barely able to stand.
"Thalassa..." Hertha quickly pulled Thalassa close to her and prevented her from falling.
With a soft whimper, Thalassa crumbled into Hertha. She was unable to hold back the tears any longer.
Hertha's heart clenched at the sight. She held Thalassa close and caressed her back, "Cry out, Thalassa. Let it all out."
Thalassa clung onto Hertha's clothes. She was crying so hard she could barely catch her breath.
Only in front of Hertha could she let go and cry out all her sorrows.
Because only Hertha understood her feelings.
Hertha had been fully involved in the complex relationship between her, Leopold, and Lysander, so she understood the situation deeply.
After crying for a while, Thalassa's emotions began to settle down.
She’d devoted all her energy to her kids and she had truly let go of Leopold.
There were no romantic feelings or affections left for him. She saw Leopold as a dear old friend.
"My feelings for Leopold are just like my feelings for you. I see him as one of the most important friends in my life. I only wish for him to live well and to be happy."
Just like how she wished for Hertha to always be happy, to pursue her own happiness and live a good life.
But then suddenly, her friend whom she cared deeply for and wished well, was gone from this world.
The shock and pain were no less than seeing a loved one pass away.
Hearing Thalassa's words, Hertha's heart skipped a beat. She held Thalassa tightly, nuzzling her face into Thalassa's chest and expressing her affection and deep love, "I know exactly how you feel. I feel the same way."
Leopold was also her friend and her schoolmate. His death had caused her immense grief as well.
