"Daniel?"
The nurse pushed open the door, and as expected, Daniel was still unconscious.
She heaved a sigh. Such a handsome young lad was now injured and confined to a hospital bed. It was truly pitiful.
The nurse walked to his bedside, checked Daniel's condition, pulled out yesterday's medical report from a folder, and placed it on the bedside table before leaving the room.
Upon seeing the nurse leave, Joie breathed a sigh of relief. She couldn't afford to waste any more time.
She opened the bathroom door and quickly exited the patient's room.
On her way out, Joie glanced disdainfully at a janitor cleaning in the stairwell.
The elevator arrived, she put on her mask, and swiftly made her exit.
Just as the elevator doors were closing, Brittany and a nurse arrived at Daniel's room.
Daniel was still unconscious. Brittany walked to his bedside and set down a thermos.
The nurse prepared his medication, changed his bandages, and carefully redressed his wounds.
Brittany, seeing the wound on Daniel's forehead, felt her heart severely ache, and her eyes reddened.
"Ms. Dustin, don't worry too much. The young master is still unconscious, so he doesn’t feel any pain.”
Being a mother herself, the nurse understood Brittany’s feelings and tried to reassure her gently.
Brittany thanked her.
After the nurse left, Brittany pulled up a chair to sit by Daniel’s bedside. She couldn’t imagine how helpless and scared Daniel must have felt when he fell.
She reached out and gently touched his face. He had lost a lot of weight due to his recent hospitalizations. Brittany decided that once Daniel woke up, she would take some time off from work to be with him full-time.
Daniel, however, remained unconscious.
Brittany stayed in the hospital for a long time. Having barely slept the night before, she fell asleep at his bedside.
When Isaac finished work, he arrived at the hospital.
The moment he pushed open the door to the patient's room, the setting sun bathed Brittany in a golden light as she lay slumped over the hospital bed. Her hands were holding onto Daniel's, even in her sleep.
Daniel obediently complied and snuggled up in bed. "Mommy."
He wanted to see Brittany.
"Mommy stayed by your side for a long time. She's sleeping now. When she wakes up, she'll come to see you."
Isaac knew what he wanted. It was normal for him to want to see someone familiar after just waking up.
Daniel had just woken up, and his face was still a bit pale.
Isaac took the thermos from the bedside table and dished out a bowl of stew. After checking the temperature, he held it up to Daniel. "Open your mouth."
Daniel hesitated.
He opened his mouth, and Isaac spoon-fed him the stew.
Brittany was a good cook, and after having a small bowl of stew, Daniel was satisfied.
"Daddy." Daniel looked at Isaac; his mouth opened and closed, but he didn't say a word.
