The Chester siblings cleared out all of Brittany’s stuff, leaving the apartment looking like a ghost town overnight.
Derek came home to find Katelin Bishop getting ready for the funeral.
She seemed to have a soft spot for Brittany.
Maybe it was a blood thing.
All these years, Katelin has been missing her lost daughter. She searched high and low for her, never realizing that her granddaughter was right under her nose.
He clenched his fists, not daring to tell Katelin that Brittany was the only descendant of her lost daughter.
His aunt had passed away many years ago.
...
It was already a week later when Isaac woke up again.
Grace couldn't help but scold him when she saw him awake and said, "Zac, how can you be so clueless!"
"Bri's funeral is over. You couldn't have woken up a bit earlier? You even missed her funeral."
The Chester family wouldn't allow anyone from the Salter family to pay their respects.
Grace was heartbroken because of this.
Isaac just stared blankly at the ceiling, not saying a word.
After Grace had a good cry, Emily took her away.
Isaac got out of bed and left the hospital.
He wandered to the research institute. The team told him that Kyle Salter's condition had stabilized.
Isaac looked at the baby lying in the crib. He bent over, his body shaking, hot tears falling on the baby's face. He could only croak out his name...
"Kyle."
Late at night, Isaac brought Kyle back to the apartment.
Derek sat inside, smelling of booze.
"How'd you get out of the hospital?" Derek asked, swaying as he got up. His eyes were bloodshot, and when he saw the baby in Isaac's arms, he froze and asked, "Who's this?"
"My kid."
Isaac's voice was hoarse.
She never thought things would get this far, much less that Brittany would die.
Half a year later, news spread that Isaac had a son.
...
Midsummer.
The heat was intense. All of Imperial City seemed to be under a giant steam blanket. The heat was oppressive, making people feel wet and unbearable.
A conspicuous red sports car was touring around Imperial City. Hannah, wearing sunglasses, was driving fast on the road. The hot wind blew through the cracks of the car window onto her face, but she didn't feel stuffy. Instead, she felt a sense of relief.
She arrived at the airport.
Hannah exited the car with a bunch of sunflowers and headed straight for the exit.
The exit was crowded with people, but she spotted the person pushing the luggage out at once.
The woman was dressed in a black sundress, revealing a slender figure; her curly hair spread out behind her, and her fiery red lips made her the brightest star.
She was wearing high heels, and her figure was graceful.
Hannah watched her slowly approaching, and suddenly, her eyes welled up.
