Brittany found it amusing. She took off his coat, set it aside, and said, "Thanks for looking out for me, Mr. Salter."
Isaac had a couple of drinks that night.
Brittany didn't like the smell of alcohol.
He had Nathan bring over some clean clothes, and then he got up to take a shower.
The sound of water mixed with the noise from the TV show gave Brittany an illusion. It felt like nothing had changed, as if all the recent events had never happened.
That thought made Brittany slap herself.
She blamed herself!
She was being soft at such a time!
She tried to snap out of it, but she couldn't quite make out what was happening on the TV show.
Isaac emerged from the bathroom in a bathrobe, walked over to the bed, and plopped down without a care.
"What are you doing?"
Brittany instinctively backed away.
He hadn't been in bed in days. Isaac seemed oblivious to her resistance. He snuggled under the covers, "We're married, right? What's wrong with us sleeping in the same bed?"
Brittany's eyebrows twitched.
The hospital bed wasn't big. Lying down, they were practically shoulder to shoulder.
Brittany could keenly sense the strong aura emanating from him and instinctively moved away.
But her movement was too sudden.
"Ah!"
She almost fell off the bed.
Isaac reacted quickly, pulling her into his arms, "Where are you going?"
Brittany stiffened at the smell of him, even more repulsed.
"Let me go."
Isaac refused to let go, his warm breath falling on her neck, and carrying a hint of impatience.
Brittany's eyes widened, trembling with anger.
"Isaac, if... if you want to have sex, go find another woman!"
He had the audacity to do that at such a time!
Word came from the research institute. If Kyle Salter's condition could stabilize in the next week, things would look up.
Just one more week, and Brittany would forgive him.
By then, he would tell her that his collaboration with Shona would last at most three months. Everything would be over by then.
Isaac looked at her profile and felt at peace.
Brittany snuggled in the bed, feeling warm, and before she knew it, she fell asleep.
Isaac saw her sleeping and chuckled softly. He tucked her in and glanced at the time. It was past eleven.
He had planned to celebrate the New Year together, but it seemed like she wasn't going to wake up anytime soon.
But that was just the first year.
They would have plenty of opportunities to celebrate New Year's together.
At the stroke of midnight.
Fireworks exploded, and screams echoed throughout Imperial City as the New Year's bell slowly rang.
Isaac wrapped his arm around Brittany's waist, turned off the TV, and planned to fall asleep holding her.
