Brittany hoisted her champagne, but she didn't chug it right away. "Thanks for your concern, Mr. Field. I'm fit as a fiddle. But I heard you've been hitting the hospital a lot lately, Mr. Field. Are you under the weather or something?"
Jason's face was all smiles. "Just a little hiccup, nothing major."
The reason he's been a frequent flyer at the hospital wasn't because of his own health issues but because his girlfriend was up the duff. She had her checkup, and it was a boy.
The secretary eyed Jason warily, afraid he'd be a bad influence on Brittany.
Luckily, because of the occasion, Jason just exchanged a few pleasantries and then hit the road.
Brittany mingled with the crowd, bumping into lots of familiar faces. She said hi to everyone.
"Ms. Dustin, are you also interested in the plot of land in the west of the city?"
Somebody tipped her off, "Mr. Wilson's head over heels for his wife. Ms. Dustin, as a woman, you should be able to find some common ground with Mrs. Wilson."
Rumor has it Kemp and his missus have been inseparable since they were kids. They've been hitched for over thirty years, and they're still going strong.
Even though Kemp was rolling in dough, he never took his wife for granted.
"Thanks for the heads up. I'll definitely be at your 30-year anniversary bash."
Brittany got some valuable information and was pondering over how to meet Mrs. Wilson when the secretary suddenly turned as white as a sheet, "Ms. Dustin, I'm feeling a bit off. I need to hit the ladies' room."
"I'll go with you."
The secretary was in so much pain she could barely stand.
Brittany, being a woman herself, understood her predicament and helped her to the restroom.
"Hold on a sec."
Brittany stopped the secretary and dug out a box of painkillers from her purse.
"You take the pills and head home; you don't have to stick around."
The secretary thanked her, took the box, and skedaddled into the restroom.
Brittany went to the sink, washed her hands, and was ready to leave.
However, as she was walking out, she heard labored breathing not too far away.
Brittany followed the sound and saw a figure collapsed in the dimly lit garden.
Brittany got a start and cautiously approached.
The figure was a middle-aged woman.
However, Mr. Robinson came over and told her, "Ms. Dustin, I noticed that Mr. Wilson has left."
"He has left?"
Brittany was a bit bummed out. She hadn't had a chance to meet him.
"He said something suddenly came up at home, so he had to leave." Mr. Robinson pointed in Jason's direction, "But Jason caught him just in time. They seemed to be having a good chat!"
Brittany involuntarily clenched her fists, feeling a hint of regret. If she hadn't been so involved with other things, maybe she would have had a chance to chat with Kemp.
...
After receiving the news about Mrs. Wilson's incident, Kemp rushed to the hospital.
Luckily, because she got to the hospital in time, Mrs. Wilson was saved.
He turned to the staff and asked, "Who was the one that told you my wife had an accident?"
"It was Ms. Dustin."
Kemp frowned and asked, "Which Ms. Dustin?"
"The one from the Dustin Group, Brittany."
