The Billionaire Who Stole My Heart novel Chapter 314

"Mr. Carrol?"

Brittany's eyes were filled with rage. "How on earth would I have ended up in Loraine's clutches if it weren't for Mr. Carrol?"

She had always thought of Mr. Carrol as her mom's long-time friend; never did she think he would betray her.

A sinking feeling seized Hannah. "Mr. Carrol is missing."

"Once I'm out of the hospital, I'll find him." She wanted to know why Mr. Carrol had betrayed her.

After Brittany fell asleep, Hannah rang Isaac. "Mr. Salter, Brittany said Mr. Carrol conned her into leaving. Can you look into Mr. Carrol?"

"Gotcha."

For the next few days, Brittany was phone-less, and Isaac seemed to have vanished, not once showing up at her hospital room.

Only Hannah stayed by her side.

Brittany sensed that something was fishy. "Hannah, what's going on outside?"

Isaac had always been there, but his absence for several days raised her suspicion.

Hannah's soup spoon paused abruptly. "Nothing! Nothing's happening outside."

Brittany gazed at Hannah, making her uncomfortable, but she remained silent.

"Just rest up; you need to get better."

Unable to face Brittany's probing, Hannah made an excuse and left.

Brittany slowly finished the soup in her bowl, and the door to the hospital room swung open. Brittany thought it was Isaac and put the spoon back into the bowl.

"Bri, I heard from Hannah that you got hurt. How are you feeling?"

It was Lionel Chester.

Upon seeing him, Brittany's eyes lit up. "What brings you here?"

She tried to sit up, but Lionel quickly came to her bedside, urging her to lie down. "You're injured; don't move."

Brittany really was injured; she had exhausted all her strength.

Now she laid in bed with a hint of weakness in her eyes. "Did something happen outside?"

Isaac was nowhere to be found, and Hannah was unwilling to talk about it.

She wasn't born yesterday; she knew they were hiding something from her.

Lionel was here because of it. "There's a lot of buzz outside; Loraine...is dead."

"I'm hospitalized, so he came to visit me."

Brittany retorted. "Did something happen to Loraine?"

Isaac's breath became slightly heavier; it seemed he couldn't keep it from her after all.

"Yes, Bri, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have kept it from you."

"The media is in a frenzy outside, and you're pregnant now. I was out of options." Isaac took her hand, his gaze deep. "I didn't want to take any risks; you should stay put in the hospital; the police will get to the bottom of this."

Hearing this, Brittany felt she was a bit harsh, and her tone softened. "Zakky, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have blamed you for this."

"You and Loraine…"

"She crashed into me on her own." Brittany told him everything that had happened in the warehouse, ending with. "I didn't react in time when Loraine crashed into me."

Glass shards pierced into her abdomen, and she fell and hit the wall.

Then she passed out, and by the time she woke up, she was already in the hospital.

If it weren't for Lionel, she wouldn't have known that Loraine was dead.

"It's okay. The police won't arrest an innocent person."
