"Alright, I'm on my way."
Brittany hung up the phone, struggling to get out of bed. After freshening up, she hopped in her car and headed towards Mr. Carrol's place.
The radio in the car was on, with the female host gleefully dishing out the juicy gossip about Mr. Salter's scandal.
Annoyed, Brittany turned off the radio.
When she arrived at Mr. Carrol's, he was at the door to greet her, looking a bit sheepish.
"Ms. Dustin, you're here."
"Any leads?"
Brittany was so hopeful for clues that she missed the embarrassment on Mr. Carrol's face and his fleeting look of guilt.
Mr. Carrol led Brittany into the living room. Then, out of nowhere, someone jumped at her!
She was knocked out cold from a blow to the back of her head.
Mr. Carrol, his face pale as a sheet, looked at the man in the living room, "Ms. Dustin is here; please leave my family out of this."
The man chuckled and took Brittany away.
On his knees, guilt written all over his face, Mr. Carrol stared at his phone, too afraid to call the police.
The man had warned him that if he dared call the cops, his family would be done for.
Brittany was hauled into a car, where Loraine was sitting in the back seat. His assistant said, "The bodyguards have been taken care of."
"Good job."
...
Brittany was jolted awake by a bucket of cold water.
Out of nowhere, another bucket of icy water was thrown at her, followed by a pair of hands roughly grabbing her hair and jerking her up, only to push her back down.
"Brittany, long time no see."
Loraine's smile was cruel. Brittany looked pale, "Is that you?"
Did Mr. Carrol sell her out?
Loraine laughed hard, "Yes, it's me. Bet you didn't see this coming."
Brittany felt like her scalp was being ripped off, and the pain made her break out in a cold sweat. "What do you want?"
She and Loraine had a history.
She could see out, but no one could see in, and outside was an old warehouse.
Inside the warehouse, a woman was tied to a cross, and being brutally whipped by a bodyguard, with her blood splattering everywhere.
Brittany recognized the woman. It was Joie!
Why was she here?
What did Loraine want with her and Joie?
News of Joie's disappearance spread quickly.
Isaac, along with Nathan and his trusted men, arrived at the location immediately.
The large warehouse was damp and cold.
Brittany was shivering and on the verge of passing out. She huddled on the floor, unable to shake off the cold.
Joie, tied up on the cross, was in bad shape too. She was bloody and barely alive.
Loraine's triumphant voice came through a speaker in the room.
"Don't worry, Ms. Joie. Your Mr. Salter will be here to rescue you soon."
