The Billionaire Who Stole My Heart novel Chapter 289

Brittany turned on her heels and walked away.

Manuel watched her retreating figure, a trace of calculation flickering in his eyes.

Brittany returned to the private dining room, and the food was already served. She quickly noticed that one of the water glasses had been used.

"Did we have a guest?"

Isaac, knowing her sharp mind, didn't try to hide it. "Yeah, a buddy dropped by."

"So why didn't you ask him to stay for the meal?"

Isaac ladled her a bowl of soup. "This is our time, just the two of us. It wouldn't be cool if someone else intruded, right?"

Brittany felt a tad shy, tasted the soup, and said, "Delicious."

"Do you want me to ask the chef for the recipe so you can try making it at home?"

"No need. I can figure it out myself." Brittany laughed lightly. It was other people's professional skills, after all. How would they make a living if they just gave it away?

After a satisfying meal, Brittany insisted on picking up the check.

The waiter looked at Isaac with a changed expression as if saying, "Man, you're lucky!"

Sensing something off, Brittany smiled and said, "I just landed a big project, so I'm treating my husband to a meal."

The waiter was amazed.

What a generous lady!

He took the credit card, wished them a return visit, and watched them leave.

Outside the restaurant, Isaac held Brittany's hand and tucked it into his pocket, "It's cold."

Early autumn had passed, and Imperial City's weather was changing fast.

Brittany didn't resist. His pocket was warm, after all. Neither of them mentioned driving, so they walked home along the road.

Later that night, Brittany, tired from the day's activities, was about to drift off to sleep.

Nathan's call came again. "Mr. Salter, Ms. Joie insists on seeing you. She says she's scared about her surgery."

Nathan found Joie really annoying. If she hadn't been so bothersome, he wouldn't have called Isaac, right?

Everyone knew Mr. Salter was busy accompanying Ms. Dustin.

Isaac frowned, "All right."

He hung up, kissed Brittany, "Bri, you sleep first. I need to go out for a bit."

Hearing he was leaving, Brittany tightly grabbed his wrist, "Where are you going?"

Isaac hadn't planned on doing that.

He still had some lingering feelings for Joie. But he knew he had to set limits.

If Brittany weren't in the picture, he might have been gentler with Joie. But now, he couldn't.

"Nathan will take care of you."

Isaac stayed at the hospital for about half an hour when he got a call from Brittany, asking when he would be home.

"All right, I'll be home soon."

Joie saw his face soften as he took the call and instinctively clenched the bed sheet.

Isaac hung up, intending to leave.

But he realized he smelled like the hospital disinfectant, so he left his phone on the bedside table and went to wash up.

Joie picked up the phone and saw the most recent call was from 'Bri'.

She inexplicably memorized the number. When Isaac left, Joie seized the opportunity when no one was around to dial the number.

Brittany, thinking it was Isaac, woke up from her sleep, "Hello?"

Joie, hearing her voice, widened her eyes in surprise.
