We've always been friends, and nothing more!
Loraine didn't expect Isaac to shame her in public like that. She was totally pissed.
"Isaac."
Manuel suddenly showed up.
"What are you doing here?"
Isaac had nothing but hate and disgust for his father.
Isaac was frosty. Manuel was not pleased by his tone, he said, "I've talked with the Field family. You and Loraine are of the same age, and you grew up together. It's about time you two got engaged."
His voice was loud enough for everyone to hear.
Everyone in Imperial City knew Loraine had a thing for Isaac.
But for some reason, they drifted apart three years ago. Now that Loraine was back in town, everyone was speculating if they would get engaged. Now, with Manuel's words, it seemed to confirm everyone's hunch!
Loraine stood shyly to the side, with her eyes full of joy as she looked at Isaac. Apparently, she knew Manuel was going to announce this at the party.
Isaac's face was grim. He scoffed, "Manuel, if you're so into Loraine, why don't you marry her yourself? I don't have that kind of luck. Besides, I'm already married."
He was married. Even if he wasn't, he would never be with Loraine.
Loraine turned pale as if she had been slapped in the face, "Isaac."
He and Brittany had no feelings for each other. How could he say such things in public? Didn't he think that being rejected in public would make her the laughingstock of everyone?
"Isaac, what do you mean? Is Loraine not good enough for you?"
The Fields couldn't take it anymore. They stood up to protect Loraine, glaring at Isaac in anger as if they would punch him if he said one more word about her not being worthy.
Isaac stood there, showing no reaction to the Field family's anger.
"What, Isaac is married?"
"When did this happen? Who did Isaac marry?"
"I have no idea, all I know is that Loraine has always liked Isaac."
"What do you mean by she liked him? Three years ago, Isaac was almost kicked out by Manuel, and Loraine immediately cut ties with him and went abroad to study, fearing that Isaac might ask her for help! Now that Isaac is back in control of the family business, the Fields are getting close to him again. Isn't this just going wherever the wind blows?"
"Speaking of which, the Field family's actions are really not cool!"
Loraine didn't expect anyone to bring these things up. She felt a tightness in her chest from anger.
Brittany heard Kari saying this, she didn't have a good look on Loraine either, but she held it in, and tugged at Kari's hand, "Kari, lower your voice."
The Field family was still there, if they said too much, it would stir up gossip.
After the Field family left, the party continued. Brittany checked the time, it was already late.
"Zella, we're leaving first, see you later."
After sending Kari home, Brittany also went home. She pushed open the door, the room was cold and empty.
As expected, Zakky wasn't home yet.
Brittany put the pastries she brought back from the dinner away and went into the bathroom. When she came out, she saw Isaac coming in.
"Zakky, you're back."
Brittany quickly walked up to him and wrapped her arms around his waist, "You have no idea what I went through today!"
Isaac's body stiffened, the place where he was kicked was aching slightly.
"What happened?"
Brittany spilled the beans, talking about how she got harassed, and her reaction. She got really fired up, saying, "Zakky, that Mr. Salter is such a jerk, trying to take advantage of me. I gave him a solid kick, there's no way he could handle that!"
