The Billionaire and His PA novel Chapter 23

“Is there any other thing you’d like me to do sir?” She asked. One thing she had learned on her first day on the job was that it was generally pointless trying to argue with Felix. It was best to just move on. Only two things were keeping her from hitting her boss. One was the fact that it was just a lawsuit and layoff waiting to happen. Two was the fact that she had seen how easily he held onto Luther; he would probably deflect her attacks with a nonchalant flick of his wrist.

Felix sighed and shook his head. “No. You can clock out for the day.”

Cassie nodded to him and began to arrange her table. She put all her things in her handbag and nodded to him. “Good night sir.” She greeted.

He waved her off. It was more of a dismissal wave than a friendly one. “See you tomorrow and be ready to do better. It was painfully obvious that this was your first day working as a personal assistant so I suggest you do some reading online about what is expected of you.” He said.

Cassie exited his office and made her way into the elevator. She was hoping that no one else, especially Emerald and Luther, would get in with her as she wasn’t in the mood to socialize but her hopes were dashed when the elevator’s door slid open on the ride down. Even though she had been hoping for zero companionships, she was more than happy when Daniel walked in. Apart from Felix, he was the only other person she knew individually in the office and Felix wasn’t even worth knowing as he was nothing but a bag of farts masquerading as a human.

He beamed at her. “How was your first day of work?”

“Hectic,” Cassie replied. She had a lot more to say about her first day of work, particularly about her boss, but she wasn’t about to start bitching about her boss to a fellow employee on her first day. If she wanted to complain about Felix, she would do so to people who weren’t associated with Tech Town – Diana, Austin, and Isabel.

“Sorry about that. It’s not always going to be like that though.” Daniel comforted.

Cassie hoped that he was right.

“So are you on an errand from the boss right now?” Daniel asked.

Cassie shook her head. “Nope. I’m clocking out for the day.” Cassie was glad that she was done for the day, if she spent any more seconds with Felix in his lavish office, she might just strangle him; lawsuit and layoff be damned.

Surprised, Daniel looked at his watch. “You’re extremely lucky. I have a meeting scheduled to take place in the next twenty minutes. I just stepped out to stretch my legs.” The elevator’s doors slid open and they both stepped out. “Speaking of meetings, I heard that some bad shittery went down at one of the meetings you most likely attended this afternoon.

“That’s because they’re not biologically related. Luther is Mr. Callahan’s stepfather.” Then he frowned at her. “And besides, not all relatives have to look alike. Anyways, this isn’t the first time he’s pulling a stunt like that but all he ever gets is a slap on the wrist. Some people think that Luther has some serious dirt on Felix that he uses to blackmail him into keeping his job.”

Cassie whistled. “Talk about office gossip.” She quipped. “I guess I’ll see you tomorrow then.”

Daniel smiled up at her in a way that reminded Cassie of an adorable golden retriever. “Really? I thought that we would have scared you off with the bitch slaps and fifteen-minute fucking breaks. And if that wasn’t enough to send you running, I legit thought that Mr. Callahan’s attitude would have sent you running for the hills. I haven’t had many one-on-one encounters with him but I still know that he’s not the easiest person in the world to work with.” He sympathized.

Cassie returned his smile with equal enthusiasm. “One thing you should know about me, Daniel, is that I don’t give up that easily.” She flipped her hair for dramatic effect and walked out through the front door with Daniel chuckling lightly behind her.

She wanted to run back into the office immediately when she was confronted with the cold weather. The thing she hated the most about the weather in Atlanta was how unpredictable it was. An individual playing Russian roulette with five out of six of a gun’s chambers filled with bullets would have more luck than a resident of Atlanta trying to predict the weather. The weather throughout the day had been searing and she had foolishly assumed that it would remain that way, and hence why she had dressed lightly. It wasn’t even supposed to be that cold considering it was just September. Rubbing her palms on her arms in an attempt to warm herself, she began her lonely walk to the train station.

“What are you guys doing here?” She asked once she walked through the doors of the Bean House. “I thought you guys worked the morning shifts. And you, you don’t even work here.”
