Lara had been waiting at the hot springs for a while.
Harrison offered to drive Lance and Gavin so they wouldn’t get lost or waste time trying to find the place on their own. Both men agreed without hesitation.
Catherine, on the other hand, was just tagging along. No one seemed to notice the trace of reluctance in her eyes. With everyone else getting into the car, she had no choice but to grab her bag and climb in as well.
The ride was tense for her. The men’s conversation was all business. Normally, Catherine would have joined in, tossed out a few comments, maybe even made them laugh. But today, she kept her head down and stayed quiet.
Lance sat right in front of her. Every so often, he glanced back, his gaze cold and growing even colder each time their eyes met.
When they neared the resort, Harrison looked over his shoulder. “The women’s section is closer if you get out here,” he said, signaling the driver to stop. “Lance, let your assistant off here. My wife is waiting inside for her.”
The van stopped at the women’s entrance and everyone looked at Catherine. The driver was already outside, holding the door open. Under all those eyes, she grabbed her bag and stepped out.
The automatic doors slid shut behind her. The van pulled away and Catherine watched the taillights disappear, letting out a long, shaky breath before heading inside.
At the door, an attendant greeted her, setting a pair of slippers at her feet. “You must be Catherine. Lara asked me to bring you to her.”
Catherine managed a polite smile. “Thank you. Could you let Lara know I’m on my period and can’t go in the water? If she doesn’t mind, I’d still love to keep her company.”
If she stayed out of the water, there was barely any risk of slipping. She could just sit in the lounge area with her shoes on.
“You can go into the pool area and tell her yourself,” the attendant said, leading her over to pick out some clothes.
Catherine picked out the most conservative outfit she could find, but it didn’t quite hide the marks on her neck. She draped a towel around her shoulders before making her way toward the pools.
Harrison had rented out the whole place, so it was quiet except for the sound of water. Catherine followed a path of smooth stones, passing by a few pools before spotting a woman lounging in one of them.
