The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 89

Catherine knew she needed to talk to Gavin—really talk, for once.

She took her lunch back to her room, eating with one hand and texting with the other.

[Gavin, I'm just a regular person. Please stop dragging me into your drama.]

She hadn’t even finished her sandwich when someone knocked on her door.

“Catherine, it’s me.” Gavin’s voice carried through.

She started to get up, thought better of it, and sat back down. She kept texting.

[I don’t want to disturb your meal. Let’s just talk over messages.]

Silence from the hallway. Then Gavin’s reply came in almost instantly.

[I’m not dragging you in, but Adelina won’t accept you either way. Don’t worry. I won’t let anyone mess with you.]

Catherine sighed and typed back.

[If you do this again, don’t blame me for not being polite.]

She wasn’t asking for his opinion. She was drawing a line.

But Gavin didn’t seem to get it.

[I’ll be more careful next time. I’ll try not to put you in a tough spot.]

So he’d just keep doing it, only with a little more caution. That wasn’t what she wanted. She wanted him to stop, period.

She shut off her phone and tossed it aside, her face tight with irritation.

But after a minute, she picked it up again and sent one last message.

[Fine. Do whatever you want.]

A few footsteps echoed in the hall. Gavin left.

By three in the afternoon, Catherine heard voices drifting down the hallway.

“So after the canyon, we can grab dinner nearby,” Adelina said, practically bouncing around Lance. “And there are fireworks at the amusement park tonight. I want to see them!”

Lance, dressed in casual clothes, kept his gaze on Adelina. “Watch where you’re going. Don’t bump into anyone.”
