The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 76

“Being the CEO’s executive assistant at SilverLeaf Industries is as far as you’ll ever go. Wishing for more will only leave you with nothing.”

Lance let her go. He straightened up, standing a head taller than her, watching as she lowered her gaze.

“Leave.”

The spot where his hand had brushed her cheek was still burning. It felt like he had slapped her all over again.

She blinked back her tears, refusing to let them fall. Still, she couldn’t give up. “About my resignation… I hope you’ll reconsider.”

Lance ignored her completely. He sat down at his desk, no longer looking her way.

She turned to leave, and that was when her tears finally spilled over.

Instead of heading back to her workstation, she slipped into the restroom, trying to come to terms with the way Lance saw her, like she was just some woman from a background he could never respect.

If he ever found out she was carrying the James family’s child, he’d probably hate her even more. He’d think she was tainting their bloodline.

Catherine placed a trembling hand over her stomach. Hot tears slid down her face.

It’s fine, she thought. This baby belongs to me, not the James family.

At two, work started back up. Catherine stepped out of the stairwell and quietly returned to her desk.

Except for the slight redness around her eyes, she looked perfectly composed.

Her name had been cleared, but because of her connection to Gavin, her life at work had become impossible. The higher-ups stopped giving her documents for Lance, handing everything to Aaron instead.

Tasks she used to handle for Lance had been stripped away. Now, all that was left for her were little things like making his coffee or reminding him about meetings.

That same afternoon, a video began circulating within the company. It showed Gavin exposing his own father, Hammer, accusing him of bribery and leaking confidential data.

Because of Hammer’s actions, Golden Horizon Enterprises’ stock took a nosedive.

By evening, the company held an emergency meeting. Hammer was removed as CEO, and Gavin was brought back in.

The truth was, the Main family controlled most of Golden Horizon’s power. The board’s decision was just a show to calm the market and protect Hammer’s reputation.
