The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 68

The sudden attention pulled her back to reality.

“Lance, I get why you called us all in for questioning at this hour. That makes sense. But if you start tossing around accusations without proof, it’s just going to break everyone’s trust. Honestly, I think The Green Group should handle an internal review first.” Catherine kept her tone steady, just stating the facts. After all, plenty of people were jealous of The Green Group since SilverLeaf Industries had their back. Plus, the folks connecting with SilverLeaf from their side were all pretty new, not the kind of veterans you’d expect to turn traitor. If there was a leak, it was more likely from someone without much history here.

Lance stayed silent, but Josh shot up from his seat, his voice full of fire. “Lance, my team and I pulled all-nighters to get this project data ready. It means more to us than anything, and none of us would ever risk leaking it. If you’re just doing this for show, to keep The Green Group satisfied, fine, we can deal with that. But if you actually suspect us… like Catherine said, that hurts. A lot.”

Lance finally spoke, his words sharp. “So far, Daniel is the only one from The Green Group who’s touched this project.”

The project itself had been finalized a while ago, but the sensitive data never really made it past Daniel. He hadn’t even decided who’d take it over yet.

The room went silent. It was like everyone forgot how to breathe, the tension so thick it weighed Catherine down. Her chest tightened, and she held her breath for a second.

Lance looked straight at Aaron. “Find out where the leak started. Follow every lead. We need real evidence. Until then, nobody leaves this room.”

Aaron nodded. “Understood.”

Outside, the sun was starting to rise and the city was waking up, but inside the conference room, nothing moved. Time crawled until finally, after two hours, Aaron came rushing back.

“Lance, we traced the leak to someone in East City. Turns out, they work for Golden Horizon Enterprises.”

Josh couldn’t hold it in. “When did Golden Horizon start playing so dirty? They’re throwing away all our hard work like it’s nothing.”

Lance’s eyes narrowed. “Is that all you found?”
