The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 58

At eleven, Catherine walked back into the office right on time. Before she could even glance at the stack of paperwork waiting for her, Lance pulled her away for an interview about their deal with The Green Family.

She had been hands-on with the Green Family partnership from day one, making sure everything ran smoothly. For the interview, she brought every document they might need, handing each one to Lance exactly when he reached for it. If anything slipped his mind, she’d quietly lean in and remind him.

Once the business questions were out of the way, the reporters wasted no time switching gears.

“Mr. James, you seem really invested in working with The Green Family. Does that mean things are still steady between you and Adelina? There were rumors your engagement was called off. Can you tell us why?”

Lance let out a sigh, his voice soft but carrying a hint of affection. “We had an argument.”

The room buzzed with excitement as the reporters pressed in.

“You and Adelina actually argue?”

“When you fight, who’s the first to apologize?”

“I remember hearing that Lance apologized in public after a fight before New Year’s. Bet he’s the first to cave.”

Lance’s lips curved in a small, easy smile. “She’s a woman. She deserves to be spoiled. Of course I’m the one who gives in.”

“So, when’s the engagement happening?”

He paused, thinking for a moment. “Soon. We’ll let everyone know ahead of time.”

He stood, straightened his jacket, wrapped up the interview, and walked off the stage.

“Do you think they’ll break up for real?” someone whispered.

“They grew up together. Fights just make their relationship stronger.”

“Exactly. The more they argue, the better they get along. An engagement, a wedding… it’s just a matter of time. Didn’t you see Lance’s face? He’s completely in love with Adelina…”

Catherine’s hands clenched around the papers she was holding, her knuckles turning pale, the documents crumpling in her grip.

“Catherine.” Someone called her name from across the room.

She blinked, realizing she’d zoned out. Lance had already left the stage. She forced herself to pull it together, gathered her things, and got ready to leave.
