The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 532

Latonia’s voice quivered. “This whole thing is a mess, but the truth doesn’t matter half as much as you and your brother’s safety. Lorinda, your dad already took care of everything. We’re just waiting for you to come home.”

She moved closer to Lorinda, eyes brimming with tears, her voice barely above a whisper. “Come home with us, sweetheart. Please. Just come home...”

Lorinda pulled back, dodging her mother’s hand. “No. I’ve spent years out here, struggling by myself, watching other people live the life that should’ve been mine. I can’t just let it go. We need to go back to the Lee family and get what we deserve.”

Latonia shook her head. “It’s not that simple, Lorinda. If you need someone to blame, blame me. Maybe I wasn’t strong enough. I just can’t risk everything by stirring up the past again. All I want is for our family to stay together... safe, at peace.” She started crying, unable to hide her heartbreak.

“I’m not—”

“Lorinda.”

Catherine stepped in, her tone gentle but firm. “Your dad’s right. Nothing is more important than a family being together. Whatever happened before, let it go. Leaving the country and giving your child a better future matters more than revenge.”

Lorinda glared at her. “I’m not going anywhere. I’m serious. I’m staying.”

Latonia looked lost, her sadness almost too heavy to bear as she glanced at Davis for help.

Davis finally caved, sighing. “Alright, we won’t leave. Not yet. But let’s go home, okay? Your brother is waiting for you.”

“Then take her home too,” Lorinda said, reaching for Catherine’s arm.

Catherine had always imagined the day Lorinda reunited with the Lee family. She expected tears, hugs, and joy, seeing herself quietly standing to the side, happy just to witness it.

But she never dreamed Lorinda would insist on taking her back as well.

Davis added, “Your mom never got over losing you, Lorinda. She almost died. For years, you two couldn’t see each other. Can you imagine what that was like? Just try to look at this all from her side.”

For a long moment, the living room was silent except for Latonia’s quiet sobs.

Suddenly, a baby’s cry drifted in from the nursery. Lanny was awake.

Catherine moved like she was on autopilot, walking straight to the nursery and closing the door behind her. The voices from outside faded, and Lanny’s cries echoed in the quiet room. She scooped him up, pressing his tiny body to her chest, feeding him gently.

Soon, he calmed, and the quiet weighed heavy on her. Through the door, she could still hear the soft sounds of Lorinda arguing with the Lee family.

Then, out of nowhere, hot tears slid down Catherine’s cheeks. They dripped onto Lanny’s little yellow outfit, darkening the fabric. The tears kept falling, one after another, until a dark patch spread across his shirt.
