The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 524

Adela’s face was flushed with urgency and emotion as she rushed forward, tears streaming down her cheeks, and threw her arms around Catherine in a tight, desperate hug.

They were standing in this same room, and the memory flashed in Catherine’s mind. Not long ago, Latonia had been here, saying similar words, but to Lorinda. The sense of déjà vu made it all feel surreal.

“I’ve spent so many years looking for you... It’s been so hard.” Adela’s voice trembled as her tears soaked through Catherine’s shirt, the warmth spreading against her shoulder.

Catherine stood completely still, not returning the embrace. In the elevator’s mirrored wall, she could see her own face—no makeup, pale, lost, and a little numb. Everything showed in her eyes, a swirl of confusion she just couldn’t shake.

“Catherine?” Adela finally pulled back a little, her arms still around her, waiting for some kind of reaction. Catherine just let her gaze wander, eyes lingering on Adela for a moment.

“You’re mistaken, Adela. I’ve never heard of the Lee family having a daughter. You must be confusing me with someone else,” she replied, her voice light but cool.

Adela’s eyes softened, full of ache and motherly love. “How could I not know if I had a daughter? You are my daughter. If you don’t believe me, we can do a DNA test.”

Without a word, Catherine reached up and pulled two strands of her dark hair, placing them neatly in her palm. She motioned for Adela to do the same.

“Alright. Here.” Adela plucked out her own hair and handed it over, tucking both sets together. Then her tone shifted, urgent and pleading. “Please, just take the baby, come home with me to the Lee family now. The DNA test could take days, but I can’t wait another minute.”

Catherine’s fingers curled tightly around the strands of hair.

“I’m sorry, Adela. I can’t go anywhere until the test results come back.” She hesitated, then added quietly, “And even after that, I think I’d rather stay here. My baby’s too little to be dragged around. He needs some peace.”

Her words sounded distant and cold, too calm for the situation. It made Adela’s face fall, her eyebrows pinching as worry crept in.

“Tell me, what does Lance want from you? Is the baby his? Is he trying to take your child?” Adela gripped her hand again, clinging to her with desperate intensity. “Come back with me to the Lee family. I can protect you. Please, Catherine, just say yes.”

For days, Catherine had felt like her heart was trapped between hope and dread, like something bad was waiting just around the corner. Today, that feeling finally settled in, heavy as stone.

After sitting in numbness for so long, she felt herself coming back to life, clarity slowly sharpening her thoughts. She pulled her hand away from Adela’s, steady and calm.

“Let’s wait for the DNA results before we decide anything. Please, just give me a little time,” Catherine said.

She took two steps back, putting space between them.

“Then promise me, can you? Until the DNA results are back, until I can bring you home myself, don’t trust anyone else. Please, Catherine, could you do that for me?” Adela looked at her with pure worry, as if she honestly believed Catherine might simply say no and vanish.
