The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 520

“Spill it,” Catherine said as she settled in next to her.

Lorinda hesitated, shifting a little and turning to face her. “Remember that fan I mentioned the other day?”

Catherine thought for a second before it clicked. “You mean the woman who’s always sending you gifts during your livestreams, the one at the top of your donor list?”

“That’s the one,” Lorinda nodded. “She insisted on meeting. Honestly, I felt a bit sorry for her, so I agreed. I told her she could come here… to our place.”

“Our place?” Catherine stared at her.

It didn’t shock Catherine that Lorinda agreed to meet if the fan was as pitiful as she said. But inviting her into their home? That, Catherine hadn’t seen coming.

Lorinda shrugged. “I figured it’s safer here, you know? If she’s weird, she still can’t pull anything in our own home.” She reached over, squeezing Catherine’s hand. “I checked her out first, don’t worry. She’s harmless. I’d never bring a random stranger into the house if I thought she was bad news.”

Then Lorinda dropped her head onto Catherine’s shoulder. “We’re best friends, you know. Really. I would never do anything that would hurt you.”

Catherine nudged her off, rolling her eyes. “You’ve been going on about being best friends for days. You really think I’d forget just because you stopped saying it?”

Lorinda batted Catherine’s hand away, a bit dramatic. “I’m just worried, okay? You’re a mom now, and I… what if you forget about me?”

Catherine laughed at that, softening. “You’re insane. You’re Lanny’s godmother. There’s no way I could forget about you. Even if I wanted to, the kid wouldn’t let me.”

Lorinda’s voice sounded small. “You’d better remember. You’re my kid’s godmother, too. Seriously, out of all the people I’ve known, no one tops you. You deserve to be happy, Catherine. For real.”

Catherine tilted her head to look at her. “Are you secretly going through postpartum depression… or are you just getting depressed for me?”

Lorinda let out a long sigh. “I’m annoyed for you, honestly. You tried so hard to leave Lance, even went through a divorce, and still ended up having his kid. Now, even after you finally quit, he just won’t let go. It’s like he’s haunting you.” She let out a sharp laugh, frustration showing. “If he ever finds out Lanny’s his… Life is going to get wild.”

Lorinda stayed behind, sitting quietly on the sofa and watching Catherine’s back with her lips pressed together. She spoke in a whisper, mostly to herself. “Catherine, we’re going to be best friends forever.”

The next morning, at half past nine.

Lanny was down for a morning nap, and Catherine had just come out of the nursery when the doorbell rang.

Alexa had taken Jasper downstairs for his walk. Lorinda was still snuggled up in bed.

Catherine headed to the front door and opened it.

Standing there was Latonia, dressed in a soft pink-gray dress, elegant but not flashy.

As soon as she saw Catherine, whatever warmth was in her eyes faded, replaced by a chill.
