The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 431

The man’s voice was deep, smooth, and full of quiet power. Instantly, the whole store fell silent. Even the sales staff barely dared to breathe.

Catherine turned, and the second her eyes landed on Lance, her heart skipped a beat. She took a slow breath, calming herself, then lowered her gaze and stepped aside.

Sally faced Lance head-on, but she was clearly rattled.

“Lance, what’s that supposed to mean?” she asked.

“I’m just telling the truth,” Lance answered, his voice steady.

“So you’re taking her side?” Sally let out a cold laugh. “Aren’t you worried I’ll tell Adelina?”

“Go ahead.” Lance didn’t even look at her, his eyes drifting over to Catherine. Catherine wore a light pink knit dress, the kind that was hard for most people to pull off. On her, though, it looked like it was made just for her. The way her shoulders held the fabric gave it the perfect shape. She looked delicate and a bit soft around the edges, the pale color making her skin look even fairer. She looked so easy to pick on, no wonder people tried.

“You—”

“Excuse me, miss.” The salesperson, picking up on the tension, forced a smile. “Since you’ve given the crib to Catherine, would you like to pick another one for yourself?”

She turned to Catherine. “Catherine, now that your husband’s here, do you still want us to deliver the crib to your home?”

Husband? Lance?

Catherine froze, and Sally looked just as shocked.

Lance didn’t miss a beat. “No need to deliver it. Just bring it to my car.”

“Of course, sir. Could you tell me your parking spot number?” The salesperson pulled out her notepad.

Sally finally snapped out of it. “You two aren’t even trying to hide it?” Her voice was shaky as she realized Lance wasn’t going to correct the misunderstanding.

Down in the parking garage, Catherine and Lance waited for the salesperson to bring over the crib.

Catherine rubbed her wrist where Lance had grabbed her, feeling a little awkward.

“Lance, I can just call a ride and take it back myself. You really don’t have to bother. And… thanks for stepping in earlier.”

Lance leaned against his car, hands deep in his pockets, eyes fixed straight ahead. “Don’t thank me. I just didn’t want you embarrassing SilverLeaf Industries. The Lee family might seem powerful, but they’re just a local business. Are you really letting a housewife push you around?”

Catherine never lost in the business world. With Lance backing her, she always stood tall at work. But when it came to the social circles of the rich, she had nothing to rely on. She'd always known when to keep her head down. Someone like Lance, who was born into privilege, could never really get it.

“The Lee family is investigating you,” Lance said quietly, his tone softening when he saw how her expression changed.
