The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 422

Fiona sat quietly for a few seconds before asking, “So, where’s she planning to go?”

“I haven’t signed off on her resignation yet. In her situation, where could she possibly go?” Finding a new job while pregnant was basically impossible.

“Why haven’t you approved it?” Fiona cut straight to the point. “Lance, even if you have regrets, you two are over. Don’t keep dragging things out.”

Lance didn’t know what to say. Was he really that kind of person? He wasn’t someone who doubled back. Sure, Catherine was special, but mostly because she was good at her job. Honestly, his biggest worry was that if Catherine left, nobody would be able to manage the division and Ingram would jump at the chance to cause trouble.

“Approve her resignation tomorrow and give her two million as compensation,” Fiona said.

“She’s the one quitting, not getting fired. The company has no reason to pay her anything,” Lance reminded her.

“You were supposed to give her a settlement when you divorced, too. Why didn’t you?” Fiona shot back.

“She didn’t want it,” Lance replied.

“So if she says no, you just let it go? In the end, that’s still on you. Enough with the excuses. The James family isn’t short on money. If your grandmother knows Catherine’s doing well, she’ll be at ease…” If they weren’t so far apart, Fiona would have shown up to see Catherine herself.

“I really doubt she’ll go through with quitting, so there’s no need for the compensation. Anyway, it’s late and you should get some rest. I’ve got things to do, so I’m hanging up now.” Lance hung up without waiting for a reply.

He stood in place for a moment, thinking. Then his phone chimed a few times with new messages from Fiona.

[Lance, you were married. You owe her at least some basic decency. Don’t turn your back on her now.]

[In those two years, Catherine never wronged you.]

[Take care of her for me.]

Jasper was still asleep. Alexa brought over two breakfast boxes, and Catherine took them with a grateful smile.

“Thanks, Alexa.”

Alexa grinned. “Don’t mention it. Honestly, I get worried seeing how small your belly is. When you’re at the hospital, talk to the doctor, see if you need more nutrition. If there’s anything you’re craving, just tell me. I’ll cook it for you.”

Lorinda gave Alexa a quick hug. “You’re amazing. Not only do you take care of the baby, you spoil us too. You’re getting a raise next month, I swear.” Her livestreams had been doing really well lately.

After a little more chatting with Alexa, Catherine and Lorinda headed out.

“Are we running late?” Catherine checked the time. They were about ten minutes behind schedule.

“No rush. Harrell’s waiting for us,” Lorinda replied, starting the car without a hint of stress.
