The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 37

Gavin was the ultimate spoiled rich kid, always chasing a good time and soaking up the spotlight. Word was, when he was supposed to take over his family's company, the Main Family actually had to send someone to drag him out of a bar and haul him over to Golden Horizon Enterprises.

Right now, the bottles on Gavin’s table probably cost more than most people made in a year. Out of all the rebellious heirs in his crew, he had the best background and was the only one who’d actually stepped up to run his family business. The people around him acted like his personal entourage, handing him cigarettes, lighting them, pouring him drinks, all while calling his name like he was a celebrity.

Catherine walked up and stopped in front of him. “Gavin.”

He glanced over, then casually pushed the woman off his lap and gestured to the seat right next to him. “Hey, you made it. Come sit.”

“I’m good, thanks. I’m used to standing. If you need anything, just let me know.” Catherine kept her gaze lowered, not meeting his eyes.

She hadn’t dressed up—just black cigarette pants, a sweater, and a black puffer jacket on top. There was something cool and distant about her, even though her outfit was casual. She hadn’t tried to stand out, but people couldn’t help but notice her.

“Gavin, where’d you find her?” someone asked, curiosity clear in his voice.

Gavin took a slow drag from his cigarette, blew out a smoke ring, and shot the guy a look. “She’s nice to look at, right?”

The guy grinned. “She’s gorgeous. You always have good taste, Gavin.”

Gavin smirked. “Relax, she’s not my girl… not yet.” He looked Catherine up and down, his meaning obvious.

He kept thinking about when Lance had kissed Catherine. The more Gavin replayed it in his mind, the more he felt that stealing Lance’s assistant would be satisfying, but stealing his woman would be way more fun. A woman this stunning—there was no way Lance didn’t have feelings for her.

Gavin grinned wider and patted the seat beside him again. “Seriously, I didn’t bring you here to be my assistant. Come on, sit. With all these people here, what do you think I’m going to do?”

Catherine hesitated, then walked over and sat down, keeping a safe distance between them.

“Want some milk? Or something else to drink?” Gavin asked, surprisingly easygoing.

“I’ll just have warm water,” she said.

Gavin waved over a waiter to bring her a glass. “Just relax. It’s the holidays, we’re here to have fun. Want to join in a game?”
