“Lance?” Catherine blinked, caught between confusion and surprise. “Isn’t he supposed to be in Cabinda? Isn’t he at the office?”
Aaron hesitated. “Huh? I thought he went to—”
He never finished. Lance’s name popped up on his caller ID.
“Lance is calling me back. I’ll talk to you later, Catherine.” Aaron didn’t wait for a reply before hanging up.
Catherine stared at her phone, lost in thought. It made sense for Aaron to be looking for Lance. But calling her for help? That didn’t add up—she was nowhere near Cabinda.
She pressed her lips together, the confusion still clouding her face.

That evening, Lorinda was set on spending her first night in her new apartment, but she still needed to pick up a few personal things. Work was slow, so Catherine clocked out right on time and met up with her for a little shopping spree.
“This nanny is worth every penny,” Lorinda gushed, pushing Jasper’s stroller through the aisles. “Jasper barely cares if I’m there. When the nanny’s cooking, he just keeps peeking over at the kitchen.”
Catherine kept browsing, grabbing what she needed. “Sounds like you found a good one. Take a couple days off. Enjoy the break before you go back to work.”
Lorinda sighed. “You think he’ll forget about me? What if he gets so attached to the nanny, he thinks she’s his mom?” She looked genuinely worried.
Catherine just looked at her. “You complain if she’s not good enough, but if she’s too good, you worry about losing your place. Make up your mind.”
Lorinda laughed, shaking her head. “I know, I know. I just want to do everything right. I’ll make more time for him, I promise.”
“I’m probably going to be swamped at work for the next few days. Might have to stay late, so don’t wait up for me at dinner,” Catherine warned. Now that she’d handled the PR manager, the next move was to reclaim her position as general manager. When that happened, she knew she wouldn’t have a minute to spare, especially with Ivan and his crowd stirring up trouble.
