The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 289

Harrell had stormed out, leaving his health certificate right there on the desk. Every little detail spelled it out for Catherine, loud and clear. This wasn’t just some random accident. This was a trap, perfectly set.

If it was all planned out, that meant Lance already knew she was pregnant.

She still hadn’t recovered from the panic after Aaron found out she’d spent the night with Lance. Now, just this afternoon, something Sophia said had sent her head spinning. And here she was, only a few hours later, standing in the middle of another disaster.

Catherine had always thought she’d be ready for this. She’d pictured the moment Lance found out, played it over in her mind so many times. But now that it was really happening, panic washed over her and she couldn’t control it.

Lance pulled out a chair and sat down, his knees apart, all casual confidence as he looked at her. His light brown eyes stayed locked on her, steady and unblinking.

“Why so quiet?”

He used to just suspect Catherine was hiding her pregnancy. Now he was sure. His handsome face was practically demanding an explanation.

“Lance.” Catherine bit down on her lip, took a long breath, and tried to steady herself. “Funny running into you here. I just had Harrell help me with something small. It’s all sorted out now, so if there’s nothing else, I’ll—”

“Catherine.” His voice was sharp. He almost never called her by her name, especially not like this.

The air in the room felt heavy, thick enough to choke on. Catherine struggled just to breathe. Maybe the baby sensed her nerves, because she felt a sharp kick from inside.

“You’re preg—”

“Lance.” She jumped in to cut him off, desperate to stop this before it got any further. “I wasn’t trying to hide it. I just… couldn’t figure out how to bring it up.”

She sounded a little too innocent, almost like she was blaming Lance for not noticing sooner.
