"Mom, I really like Lance. He has everything. His family, his own achievements... he's honestly the best. I have to marry him." Adelina's voice was firm and clear, leaving no room for doubt.
Sarah just looked at her, helpless. "This is way too risky. If the James family finds out before the wedding, it's over. And after you're married, how are you even going to explain all this to Lance?"
"Relax. Lance is the only person who knows, and anything that comes up after we're married... we'll handle it then." Adelina grabbed her mom's hand. "That's why I don't want to wait, Mom. I'm worried something will go wrong if we drag this out."
Sarah felt her mind buzzing, the stress almost worse than her illness. "Just... give me a minute..."
She pressed a hand to her chest, trying to steady herself as her vision faded in and out. After a while, Sarah managed to calm down. She patted Adelina’s hand, her voice softer now. "We're too far in to turn back. We just have to see this through and hope nothing goes wrong. If you can make it to the wedding, you'll have your place in the James family. Just listen to me and wait..."

Belinda had texted Lance earlier, so he was already waiting for her outside the hospital. She opened the car door and didn't even wait for it to close before starting in.
"What is going on with you lately? You're about to get married, but things between you and Adelina keep getting worse. She's so anxious, and now she's acting out all the time."
Lance started the car, his fingers gripping the wheel as he pulled into traffic. "She's just overthinking everything."
"You know, you can be really cold. No wonder she doesn't feel secure. You're marrying her, so can't you at least treat her right?" Belinda sounded tired. She used to be patient with Adelina, but after everything that had happened since their engagement, her patience was running out. Every bit of drama hurt the James family's reputation or SilverLeaf's business, or just made life harder for Lance.
"Just... try not to stir up any more trouble. The family's already embarrassed enough."
Lance just made a sound in response, barely even acknowledging her. Belinda felt a cold, sinking feeling in her chest. She was the only one in the James family who had ever truly supported this marriage. If it all fell apart, she wouldn't even know how to explain it.
She just prayed nothing else would go wrong before the wedding.
The Games the Green family was playing were obvious, and the James family saw right through them.
