The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 269

For some reason, hearing Lance’s voice made Catherine’s heart flutter with nerves. She moved quickly and quietly to the office door, lowering her voice as she whispered to Aaron, “Aaron, just give me the—”

“Lance, Catherine’s here!” Aaron cut her off, his emotions clearly tangled.

Ever since Catherine walked in, Aaron couldn’t take his eyes off her. As he glanced at her, he couldn’t help but notice the gentle curve of her belly. If someone didn’t know her well, they’d never guess she was pregnant. He definitely didn’t want to get caught up in this mess. Without hesitation, he pulled Catherine into the office, raising his voice to interrupt Lance, who was still on the phone. Then Aaron let go of her and practically made a run for it.

The door, which had been wide open, slammed shut behind him. It all happened so fast, Catherine barely had time to process it. By the time she caught her breath, Lance was already standing right in front of her.

His eyes were dark and impossible to read, his gaze sweeping over her from head to toe. The way he looked at her made Catherine feel like he could see straight through her. His eyes lingered a little too long on her stomach.

“Lance, sorry to bother you.” The words came out awkward and uneven. She couldn’t hide the discomfort on her face. The last person she wanted to see right now was him, and it showed.

Lance didn’t say a word. He just kept looking at her, his stare growing sharper and more intense, as if he was determined to pull every secret out of her.

Catherine had to steady herself with a deep breath. “I’m just here for Aaron, that’s all. I won’t keep you.”

She turned, ready to leave.

“Stay right there.”

He ended his call, cutting off the chattering voice on the other end. Setting his phone aside, he got up, rounded his desk, and leaned back against it, never taking his eyes off her.

At first glance, Catherine didn’t look much different from before. But if you really looked, her figure was softer, her waist and hips fuller than before. The waist he used to wrap his hand around was thicker now, but even with those changes, she still moved with an effortless grace.

She was pregnant.
