The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 257

Lance didn’t slow down as he pushed open the door.

“Why are you being so dramatic? If you ever lie to me, you better be ready to pay for it.”

His voice was casual, the kind that only comes from a lifetime of friendship and trust. Harrell just leaned back in his chair, a bitter smile tugging at his lips. He sat there for a long moment, his eyes gradually growing darker.

Adelina, just wait and see.

The day before the weekend, Catherine got a message from Harrell. He wanted to meet her at a tea house out in the suburbs the next day.

“He asked you out?” Lorinda nearly jumped out of bed when she heard. “Is he actually into you? I mean, it’s wild enough with me being a mom, but you’re literally pregnant!”

Catherine switched off her phone and poked Lorinda on the forehead.

“He just wants to give me my medical file.”

Lorinda groaned, rubbing her temples before falling back into the blankets. “Are you worried he’ll try something? Need me to go with you?”

“I’m not worried about that,” Catherine replied, shaking her head. “I just don’t get why he wants to meet somewhere so far out. He could’ve just left it with a nurse at the hospital, and I’d pick it up.”

Her gut told her Harrell had some kind of motive. She just couldn’t figure out what it could be.

“What, is he going to eat you or something?” Lorinda rolled onto her side, running a hand through her hair, watching Catherine with a teasing grin. “I’ll go with you. If he tries anything, I’ll have your back.”

Catherine laughed. She couldn’t picture Harrell making a move on her at all. If anything, she could more easily imagine herself jumping on him.

“I’ll just ask him what’s up.”

She sent Harrell a quick text: ?

He replied: I’m off tomorrow and accidentally took your file home. I’ll be on vacation soon and won’t have time to bring it back to the hospital. Could you pick it up at the tea house?
