Catherine said nothing. Her face was tight, every line spelling out how much she wanted to be anywhere but here.
“I know nothing actually happened between you and Lance,” Gavin said. “But if this video gets out... do you really think Adelina will believe that?”
Gavin had seen it all—Catherine pushing Lance away. But he was the only witness. If that video leaked, no one would care about what happened after. They’d just see what they wanted to see.
“You can tell me what you want first,” Catherine said, her voice careful. She couldn’t just say yes.
Gavin grinned, full of smug confidence. “Relax. I wouldn’t make things hard for someone as gorgeous as you. Just promise me, when you leave SilverLeaf Industries, give Golden Horizon Enterprises some priority. That’s all—just an extra condition. What do you say?”
Catherine’s brows pulled together. “Can we just get to the point?”
Gavin’s grin grew a little crooked. “Be my assistant for two days,” he said, arching an eyebrow, looking like he was up to no good. “Don’t worry, it’ll be after SilverLeaf goes on break.”
She hadn’t expected that.
She’d been sure Gavin would use the video to force her to jump ship, make her join Golden Horizon right away. If she hadn’t spent two years married to Lance, she’d never even consider letting someone threaten her like this.
If she really wanted to, she could pull the security tape from Lance’s house and explain everything to Adelina. That nothing happened tonight. But Adelina and Belinda already saw her as a problem. She couldn’t give them any more ammunition.
Gavin had lost the project and couldn’t touch Lance, so now he was taking it out on her.
Catherine thought it through, weighing her options. “I’ll agree. But nothing illegal. And you can’t make me do anything I don’t want to.”
Gavin might be a show-off, but he wasn’t known for being a bad guy. Catherine didn’t think he’d actually hurt her.
“Deal. It’s settled,” he said, not missing a beat. “I’ll let you know after the break.”
He straightened up, a sharp look flashing in his eyes before he turned and got into his car.
