The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 239

“I won’t.”

Catherine blurted it out before she could stop herself.

The confidence in her own voice surprised her, and for a second she just sat there, stunned.

“Well, yeah. Belinda adores Adelina. Even if Adelina’s not the sharpest, her spot is pretty much locked in.”

Lorinda spoke around a mouthful of rice. “And she and Lance grew up together. Honestly, I think Adelina’s got that Mrs. James title in the bag.”

Catherine froze, her chopsticks halfway to her lips. She glanced at Lorinda.

“Can we just eat without talking about stuff that ruins my appetite?”

Lorinda nearly argued back, but stopped herself. Deep down, she knew Catherine only got upset because she still cared about Lance.

It would only really be over when she felt nothing at all.

“Fine, fine, let’s just eat. When we’re done, let’s take Jasper to the park.”

Catherine picked up a piece of meat and dropped it onto Lorinda’s plate. “Eat more. You need it.”

Lorinda sighed. “Honestly, streaming again has been rough. I just can’t seem to get my energy back.”

“This job is exhausting. When we’ve saved enough, we’ll open a little shop and quit.”

She and Lorinda had been dreaming about that shop for ages.

Just a small grocery store, hanging out all day, snacking, selling things, ringing up customers.

Amanda always teased them for having ‘small dreams.’

She said they could both make it big if they wanted, but just didn’t have the ambition.

But all they wanted was a simple, peaceful life.

The Green family showed up at the James estate, bringing Adelina with them to apologize.

Lance even left work early just to be there.

Ableson and Fiona sat together on the main sofa, with Belinda and Garrison on either side.
