The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 22

There was no way she could coast through life, raising a child on a few million, just waiting for the days to pass. She knew she had to work.

“Belinda, you don’t have to worry. I know where I stand. I won’t stay at SilverLeaf Industries and become a problem for you, Lance, or Adelina. I’m planning to resign. It’s just, with the year wrapping up, work is hectic and I haven’t found the right moment to bring it up.”

Belinda looked her over, searching for any sign of hesitation. “Do you really mean that?”

Catherine nodded. “Absolutely. I’ll hand in my resignation to Lance right after the New Year. Leaving properly is the only way I’ll have a clean record for my next job.”

“Alright. I’ll give you a few days.”

Belinda tucked the check away, her gaze still frosty. “Lance and Adelina argued over you today. I don’t want to see that happen again.”

Catherine nodded. “I know Adelina doesn’t like me. Please tell her, I’m just Lance’s secretary. Ask her to stop making things hard for me.”

She kept her tone calm and respectful, making it clear she wasn’t looking for trouble.

At last, a hint of approval flickered across Belinda’s face. The only reason she’d let Catherine stay at Lance’s side for two years was because Catherine knew how to behave.

“I’ll say this now. If you try anything behind my back, I won’t be forgiving.”

Thinking of how upset Adelina had been, Belinda didn’t bother with any pleasantries.

Catherine lowered her head. “Okay.”

Belinda turned and walked away, the sharp click of her heels echoing down the hallway.

Maybe Belinda’s warning worked. After that, Adelina stopped making things difficult for Catherine.

Lance moved Shirley over to help Adelina, so Adelina sent her out on every errand she could think of.

Not long before the holiday, the government project was finalized, and SilverLeaf Industries landed the contract.

Before that, everyone had been buzzing about Golden Horizon Enterprises supposedly partnering with the government, but now they just looked ridiculous.
